Hey Lab,
Since the big web browsers are really being stupid lately I want to host an event called Browser Wars. We can get as many unusual browsers and showcase whatever hacky or interesting thing you can do with them.

I'm not posting a date yet because I want to coordinate a date based on those who are most interested.

Not really intending on people giving talks, but more station based so that we will have various people demoing different things around the lab. Moheeb has some crazy browser things going on and I know that Luis always does as well.

Anyone else have browser hacking to showcase or browser things you are curious about?

Who else is interested in this and what weird browsers should we showcase?

I’m interested as Browsers are an under thought about area (as far as I know).

I’m just getting into investigating how plugins and addons work programmatically and security wise, but it’s all quite interesting.

Yeah I thought you might be interested. Dude I loved so many crazy browser extensions back in the day. I'm sure I can't even remember some of them. I also have used a lot of javascript bookmarklets. Many of those are still helpful.

Luis already said he has a lot he could show off. He has a game engine thing he was working on to make those handheld gaming devices play more games and it turns out the code works in web browsers which is pretty sweet. We'll get him there to show off stuff.

almost all the browsers are now based on the chrome engine. Firefox is changing
(for the worse IMO), I have used it since it forked from mozilla

Opera started off strong, but now is just another chome clone

I am watching Ladybird with interest, it seems like they are getting close to a
release (major web apps are starting to work) but aren't there yet.

We can put some things on the projector if we need to. Heck we even have extra projectors too.

We could maybe free up the front window monitor or the extra we have in the back.

You need to get out more. Lynx and w3m are edge use cases... Carbonyl will, however, not disappoint.

I try to keep my command line chops strong. I break Linux too often.

I may have to work out current kiosk mode browsing. We just need a keyboard and mouse for the front window monitor

That was weird, Jay and I's replies were getting autodeleted think google groups glitched.

Anyway will be there with chromecasts for the projectors and some stuff to demo!

Real post now: I'm interested! It'll probably be a mainstream browser (i.e. Chrome), but I'm sure I can come up with some fun and interesting hacks.

I *love* this idea! Well done, Eric!

I wish I could be there to demo Lynx and Emacs (see attached). :D

Aside: "attached" cannot possibly be spelled write. Too many 't's in
some places, not enough in others. It's not even that long a word.
