I propose all decisions (not just disagreements) be resolved through ritual combat. This combat can take any form such as through a game of wit, a hackathon, or through risk of injury/cessation of perpetual conscious being through blunt implement.

I would like to make a clear rule against using Pon-Farr style ritual combat because thats cliche and we dont want to be that kind of typical nerd.

Granted, the form of combat can be a typical vote through HYH but the right to ritual combat is always available and cna be invoked at any time regardless of proposal requirements of 2 weeks or 49 days or whatever it is.

If a more physically abled member challenges a member with certain physical hinderances, then the form of combat must accomodate them. (we're not monsters). It is the responsibility of the challenger to make these accomodations.

Silly hats are required.

Amendment to proposal: If a board member challenges another board member they must refer to the community to decide the form of combat. With regards to station champions, if the form of combat involves weapons they can only use the tools available at their station to construct their weapons.

Why does this need a proposal? Just rile people up and get them to fight. It's been done before! Remember, this is a do-acracy. We don't need to write this down. In fact, I'm pretty sure we are breaking the first rule.

Did you know an experiment by a campus makerspace renamed the word hackathon to a "collaborative making/hacking event" and had an extremely-increased turnout of women compared to the previous wording? I believe it went from 20 to 50% or something like that. I cannot, for the life of me, find the article again. At any rate, it's entirely consistent with evolutionary biology and the purpose of testosterone and estrogen. Women aren't super competitive on average, but rather collaborative, as they evolved as such after the division of labor occurred.

I wouldn't say tht women aren't competitive, they just compete in different ways

Fair enough. I meant in the context of combat, though, lol. I'm sure there are many men and other kinds of people who are not motivated by such things as well.

WOMEN CAN COMPETE AT THE SAME LEVEL IF NOT MORE. IN COMBAT ALL ARE EQUAL GENDER IS IRRELEVANT ONLY BATTLE MATTERS. COMBAT COMBAT COMBAT.

actually i love the idea of making hackathons more about collaborative making / just general hack days. Less pressure and more about just learning together through the process of shenanigans.

Those of you unfamiliar with our founding myths may not understand how rich the precedent for this is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AU2Ua8fziyw

This will be reaffirmed in a few weeks at The Viewing.

It was written before many of us were born and it will remain after all of us are gone:

The Contest: Hassle Secret Service agent Richard Gill, and get one back for Joey!
Decisions: Final by a vote of two to 1.  NO APPEALS
Time Period: The dual will last until we declare a winner
Rules: Use only the dial ups, access codes, and passwords IN YOUR COLLECTION.  You cannot ask for any help from us.
Soundtrack: Sweet techno, mostly from The Prodigy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iohbzmcX6zg

I've been following all of these proposal and bylaw discussions for the last couple of weeks and on more than one occasion have started to type up a proposal for "Bylaws by Combat", but have always stopped myself because I'm not a current member and haven't been to the lab in ages so it's really none of my business.  Imagine my delight when I saw Moheeb's EXCELLENT proposal this morning.  Kudos!

cheers,
c

I could support this proposal if the weapons were large wet trout.

Shaundra, we should consider our messaging. You've got a very good point.

Rainbow or brown trout? Also whats wrong with dried trout? What about trout jerky? Does it have to be wet in the sense its a freshly picked fish or does being smothered in BBQ sauce count? I also think we should consider in my proposal I suggested we tailor the format of combat to the situtation and in the clause of it being two station heads combatting I specifically stated they should only be allowed weapons made from materials from their station. I feel like you completely glossed over my proposal and didnt read the body of text that I so painstakenly crafted with skillful artisinal hands.

Well, I guess I'm reduced to large sharp objects.

You should ask if the trout are refrigerated or not...

I rescind this proposal. As I do not feel you all carry the heart of warriors. Human petak scum, is there not a drop of Klingon blood in your veins?! [mumbles incoherently]
