Volunteer for Operations!

Hello everyone,

This is Arnob, current Head of Operations at HeatSync Labs. I am looking for volunteers to help manage the lab and the growing list of responsibilities that come with hosting a makerspace.

 At the moment, I'm particularly focused on the following aspects:

• Facilities - Ensure that HeatSync Labs has the supplies it needs to keep running and keep itself clean.
• Machine Maintenance - Maintain the various machinery at the Lab. This can be further divided into the different stations that we have at HeatSync.
• IT and Server Management - Manage, map, document, and potentially upgrade the upstairs server system to keep us online
• Website and App Maintenance - Maintain the main website, the wiki, and the app, ensuring everything stays up

Anyone is welcome to volunteer for Facilities. In regards to the other options, I am looking for at least a few people who are knowledgeable about these systems, though I still encourage as many people participate in helping with any of these.

Here is a link to a Google Forms Questionnaire asking about your interest in helping (including an "Other" section if there is anything beyond the above that you'd like to help with) and your expertise, if applicable.

I wanted to additionally note that if you are already doing any of the things that I mentioned above, I would greatly appreciate if you filled out the form and let me know. I don't want to step on anyone's toes or not recognize the work that people are already doing to keeping the lab running.

I thought one of the duties of a station champion was to maintain the supplies and machinery of the station. Both Michelle and I continually do that for Sewing and I’ve been trying to maintain the Art Station as well. 

I will fill out the form.

Thank you for filling out the form!

Although there are supposed to be station champions for each station, I don't believe the list of station champions on the wiki has been updated in a while. Nor can I even seem to find the list...so it's unclear to me whether every station still has a champion. If you are a station champion, please fill out the form so I can be sure that you exist and are still maintaining your station! 

I'd also like to give station champions a crew of people to help them with their responsibilities so that stations can grow and evolve, not just be maintained. And I'd like to give curious folk a chance to learn from the station champions as well. I want to make a system where champions, if they need to leave for an extended period of time or are no longer interested in being the station champion, can be rest assured that their station is in safe hands while they are away.

Thanks Arnob. When I filled out the form, I identified myself and Michelle as Sewing station managers (although I’m rather fond of ‘champion’). There is no Art Station manager so I’m involving the ‘do-ocracy clause’ and maintaining that station as well. 

And yes, the wiki is not up to date and missing a few stations as well. But that’s another story.

This Operations Team page was last updated in January. There haven't been many actual changes. Maybe Cynthia will be Jewelry station champion officially. That is a pretty new change.

About the Operation Team page:

My last name is Brett, I married 12 years ago, changed my last name and haven’t been a champion for more that 8. Please change my name to Linda Brett. 

The Art Station is not listed at all. It was created by Jamie who stopped attended years ago but the Station is still here. There isn’t a champion but  I’ve been trying to maintain it. 

The Legos Station has been a thing for a few years now. It’s big and growing. People like it but it is also not listed at all. Is there a champion? It should also be listed. 

I only know about those stations (and 3D printing and Jewelry but those are taken care of). The ones on the other wall, I’m not involved with. 

I appreciate everyone. We are all using our own time but if the wiki is said to be up to date, it ought to be. 

Just saying’ I’ll back out now, slowly.
