All adapters are 65 Watt.

I have taken Laptop 5 home to work on the image, some of this will be a little trickier than I expected due to how Microsoft is doing Windows 10 pro refurb licenses now. Our machines do not get physical stickers, as a result:

"Licenses are all installed through a digital service owned by Microsoft and the key is in a folder on the drive at the location C:\Windows License once a user account is created on each unit and it talks to the Microsoft activation server the unit will be activated after any component change or reimage but this must be done first."

Let me know the software you want on these now, or forever hold your peace!

The 7470 is a tough chassis, it was my work PC for 3 years and I bought a used one and that was terrific. Don't overcharge the batteries. The BIOS will tolerate any Windows 8 or 10 edition. Ports are tough, did they come with better optical drives? I think this is a good purchase!

LaserCut 5.3
SumatraPDF reader
Libre Office
Notepad++
Visual Studio Code
VLC media player

Automatic Updates for Windows 10 are disabled using Windows Update Blocker
Creepy Windows 10 telemetry has been disabled/curtailed by O&O shutup10

If you have an open source solution to Deep Freeze, it would be something we would likely look into.

This way we can hold classes and such with the laptops now, even if this is not the final software loadout.

Even though Microsoft has said poo poo on older processors getting Win 11 updates, we may indeed look into 11 for these things, hey if some crazy guy can get auto updates working with a EMT64 Pentium 4 on 11, then we can get it working with our 6th gen core i5's!

We might switch to tenacity, but since audacity was available with an auto loader on ninite we've used it for now.

Please, if you want  software on the laptops, let us know here so we can make sure we give a consistent experience!

That is all!

2 Year update. All the laptops have Windows 10 loaded and various pieces of production, creativity, and other OSS software, and are outside their refurb warranty.

Laptop 4 had it's battery fail

Laptop 6 had it's bluetooth fail

I swapped the batteries of Laptop 4 and Laptop 6 to verify the bad battery, and took Laptop 6 into ReviveIT with the bad battery and Wi-Fi module (bluetooth is built into the Wi-Fi card.

I spent $52 total on the replacement wifi card and a new battery, and the fleet is whole once more! Consider that my dues this time around!

Thanks for your patience, let me know if we run into any other issues!

So in summary, Laptop 1 has a dead battery and has to be plugged in (Label added to the top of said laptop to signify this) and Laptop 5 may have a battery going bad, so we may pick up 2 new batteries at some point (They are cheap enough, genuine new replacement batteries are around $35 each at the time of this post for our model). Laptop 4 had a thermal shutdown last year, so we'll keep an eye on it. The bluetooth on Laptop 12 is still working, but I did not test the BT functionality on all laptops. All laptops now have the most up-to-date bios and the most up-to-date windows 10 version as of this post. I have re-enabled Windows Update Blocker after performing the updates (so updates will not get in the way of using them or in the middle of a class). I also made sure the entire fleet has Fusion 360 installed.

Future plans will include upgrading the RAM. Unofficially these will support 32GB total, but the most economical upgrade would be to swap one of the 4GB sticks for a 16GB stick, giving each 20GB of usable ram. At the time of this post, the cheapest solution is $57 for a 32GB (16GB x 2) pack, so we would need 6 of those to do the entire fleet. So spending $342 (around $370 with taxes) would more than double the ram in each computer. I don't think it's critical now, but I wanted a baseline I can look at later (if ddr4 sodimm memory prices fall or rise, etc). Either way that money spread over 12 computers is around $31 per seat (which isn't bad for more than doubling the ram!!!). We'd have the option of upgrading them further to 32GB if we wanted to (If I couldn't buy the same exact module, there would be a musical ram swap where I pull the ram modules out of half of them and replace the remaining 4GB stick on the other half with the old batch, and all the new ram would go into the second half of the machines as intended)

That's all I have to report from last night, let me know what you all think and give me feedback on what you'd like to see done with our laptop fleet or what other programs and such we should be running on them. If we ever upgrade them to Windows 11, it will be unofficial and not supported, but we'll make it work if needed.

Next time I can schedule a day a the lab I intend to evaluate the fleet again, so before I get there (might take a month), are there any concerns on the Latitude E7470 fleet?

If there are any physical problems, battery issues, issues with the bluetooth or wifi not working, or software issues, please post them here and let me know which laptop it is! (This way I can pick up parts before I get to the lab if they are needed/etc) I'll likely see if there are any bios updates and also see if I need to do any windows 10 updates as well (I have updates blocked to them via a mod just so updates do not get in the way of classes/work, so it's more/less on a manual update cycle).

If you want me to install anything on the fleet that isn't there already, or update (or not update!) any application now is the time to let me know!
