A HeatSync demo is a demo of certain tools that we have here at the lab performed in a school classroom. Examples of tools that I believe are suitable for a demo include:
3D printer
Embroidery machine
Microscope
Vinyl cutter
Robots
The ideal set of tools would include tools that demonstrate the variety of activities available at HeatSync, are safe for a minor to operate with adult supervision, and are easily transportable.
The purpose of a HeatSync demo is not only to introduce students to new STEM tools, but also to introduce students (and the school) to HeatSync Labs. It’s our first step in potential future partnerships with these schools and the greater community beyond.
Permission from the champions to borrow certain machines for the day
Self explanatory. Once we do a demo for a class, we can gauge interest on whether they would want to have a field trip here. The difference between a field trip and a typical tour is that during a field trip I would demonstrate how to operate different machines and have some sort of activity for students to do. We could charge for these field trips. I’m not interested in making money off of this, so all funds would go to the lab.
This is my eventual goal. I want to establish makerspaces at these schools modelled after HeatSync. A passing idea I have is we could charge schools directly for membership with the lab and technical support for their makerspaces.
