Good Day Everyone,
I would like to plan an event where I could gather some extra hands and muscle to help me clean our vinyl floors. They are absolutely dirty and need some major industrial cleaning! I tried with my house hold mops and products, but I barely scratched the surface.

My plan; Open a Paypal / GoFundMe page to gather $500-$750 to rent out cleaning supplies, a floor polisher / buffer, and the pads and materials needed to scrub off all the marks off the floor and try to get it as white and clean as possible.

After this is completed, I would like to dedicate our Saturday HYHs as the Official Monthly Floor Cleaning Day, where we volunteer our time to maintain clean floors.

Let me know what ya'll think and I'll create a Google Forms Post to see what date is best for us to get together.

Materials needed:
  • Neutral pH floor cleaner (e.g. Zep Neutral Floor Cleaner or Armstrong Commercial Floor Cleaner)

  • Magic Eraser or melamine sponge

  • Degreaser (optional for greasy areas – use cautiously)

  • Low-speed floor buffer (optional but highly effective)

  • Black or green scrub pads (green = less aggressive)

  • Wet vacuum or mop and bucket

  • Microfiber mop for finish

  • Floor finish/wax (optional, for protection after deep clean)

Beua and Landon did a pretty thorough cleaning of the floors back in january and they looked pretty amazing at the time, I would touch base to see what methods/chemicals/processes they used.

If you choose to use the process Landon etc used, I'll bring in my Oreck buffer. Please let me know before next Wednesday, I will be out of the state from Friday until Aug 11th.

Interesting that neither Frank or Anthony has  any payments ever on HSL member page.  That must be in error.

It shows 0 payments for me as well. But I have paid every month. So it must not be working.

Yeah I’ve been paying my $50 over PayPal

Thank you,

I have a donation check. I could not make this donation  electronically.

Is there someone I can hand this check to?

PayPal changed the API years ago and it broke the code that automated updating those numbers.

This is all off topic to the thread though.

Frank is the wrong person to coordinate this. As usual he has avoided any investigation as to why things have been done certain ways.

He jumps in head first and ignores any advice that he didn't already consider.

I'd recommend we stop encouraging Frank's brash thoughtlessness.

Robert,
Anyone who is hosting open hours can help put your check in a donation bin for follow up. Technically David Flores who hosts on Saturday may be the best person to hand it to since he is assisting the treasurer.

Or just slip it in one of the donation bins and email board @ heatsynclabs.org and let them know which one it's in.

Sometimes cool things just happen, but usually you have to plan them.

It's not really brash thoughtlessness but more like, if it doesn't work lets fix it, or better yet lets improve it. I don't like making excuses to why things don't work or accept "well that's just how it is". My motto is, "what can we do to make it work better, if it breaks, we update and fix it". If we took the time to show people what was done or has been tried, actually communicate with them, have an open mind and open to new ideas, maybe we wouldn't have some of the issues we're having...... Food for thought.....

This thread is about floor cleaning. Please don't change the topic.

Rick's offer is very generous and expires today because he's heading out
of town.

Rick lent his floor cleaner for the last rounds of floor cleaning. I did
a couple overnight shifts with Beau. It works very well. We should still
have plenty of Zep system chemicals in the cleaning supplies room.

However: It is a big job and requires emotionally positive people.

Following the standard process, in 8 hours, 2 people working non-stop
can get about 1/3rd of the main area done. I would recommend having 3
people if you want to be able to take breaks. Doing it in smaller
sections doesn't shorten the overall elapsed time, because you have to
give the chemicals time to work.

There is a fair bit of physical labor moving chairs and tables, and
there are cords and sensitive things around so you have to be mentally
engaged and careful while you're doing it.

It can be a fun thing, like haxmas. That requires 3 - 4 people who are
emotionally positive and mutually supportive types. Beau and I had a
good time, though the work load was heavy for 2.

Seriously, though; bring your A-game regarding positive mental attitude.
This is not a job for grumps, narcissists, or bosses.

And thanks, again, Rick - your buffer is excellent!

Thank you Robert! And yes Rick, your buffer would be a great help! Let’s coordinate a time when we can meet and I take notes on how to properly use it. Last thing I want to do is make the floor worse or break your buffer.

I will coordinate with others on when they are available to assist me in getting this floor cleaned up and move all the furniture in the way.

Thank you,
Francisco Ruiz
