Food Truck Alley

FOOD TRUCK ALLEY

The combination of both new and regular trucks has seen a good turnout at the Food Truck Alley. This Saturday we have Eastside playing, and on the 16th we are having an open mic Sunday.

The Kids Day out was very popular, so we are planning another one on December 14th.

Bring back flight

The fundraising for Flight has got off to a good start, reaching nearly $2000 in the first couple of weeks. A huge thank you to all of you who contributed!

We still have a way to go, so please consider making a donation so we can replace our tribute to Llew.

Waste & Pollution. There was an old practice in coal mines of taking a canary in a cage into the mine. Canaries are more sensitive to toxic gases than miners, so when the canary died, the miners had to evacuate. Our planet Earth and it’s biosphere can be likened to a mine, except there is no mechanism for humans to know when things will become too toxic and no way of escaping. Humans are an integral part of most ecosystems on Earth and all ecosystems are interconnected. Human activities are adversely affecting many of these ecosystems and we must continually seek ways of minimising or avoiding these effects.

Eco-Kiwi Pledges. Our 2025 Pledges for Waste & Pollution are:

19. Reduce micro and nano plastics from tyres entering aquatic environments, by travelling by walking, biking, busing or small vehicles.

20. Buy only what is necessary, durable, repairable, non-plastic/ synthetic, locally made, toxin free, recycled and recyclable and leave goods packaging with suppliers. Buy in bulk, as refills, and as concentrates to reduce waste and cost

Ngaa mihi /Cheers, Dave Bryce.

Staveley Camp is looking for a

New Caretaker and Forest Kaitiaki

You can help by sharing this with anyone you think could fit the role, or with any groups or networks which might help us reach our new caretaker kaitiaki

Yep, sadly, Gen is leaving

After eight years in Staveley, the call back to Golden Bay has become too strong to keep ignoring and I am aiming to get myself back up there in the not too distant future.

The Staveley Camp Committee and I are launching a search for someone (or some people) who can continue the work of caring for the camp and forest so that the groups that use it and the whole community continue to reap the benefits of this excellent asset.

Obviously this is a very nuanced role, as I have essentially built it around myself, using my strengths, skills and what I enjoy. This has included securing funding for work in the forest, which has come with its own requirements, as well as the necessities of cleaning and caretaking the buildings and grounds to make it feel inviting and well loved for all the groups who use the camp.

Because the job is so unusual, we are open to different possibilities of how it could be split or shared.

The ultimate find might be a young, dynamic couple, passionate about environmental restoration and community, with their own tiny house, a hankering to settle near the snowy mountains and a flair for running events and mobilising volunteers! Sound too much? I reckon you know them! Please tell them their dream life is here!
