Fanaa was one of the most expensive Bollywood films during its time of release. The film's title is derived from the Islamic Sufi term "fanaa", meaning "destroyed" in Arabic, Persian, Urdu, and Hindi. The film was promoted with the tagline "Destroyed In Love...". Khan and Kajol were romantically paired opposite for the first time with this film, but it marked their second collaboration after Ishq (1997), in which they were paired opposite Juhi Chawla and Ajay Devgn respectively. It also marked the comeback of Kajol, who was last seen in Karan Johar's Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001). This film marks the first time Khan has worked under the Yash Raj banner although he had earlier worked with Yash Chopra in Parampara

Initially, producer Aditya Chopra wanted to cast Aishwarya Rai as Zooni, but he and director Kunal Kohli approached Kajol on Khan's suggestion. Despite simultaneously being offered Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006) with frequent collaborators Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol chose to do Fanaa, thus marking the first film in which she was romantically paired opposite Aamir Khan, after having starred together in Ishq (1997).

Fanaa was originally planned to be shot in Kashmir before Kajol backed out due to the continuing insurgency in that region. The director choose to move the Kashmir segment to the Tatra Mountains in southern Poland, which also provides suitably snowy and mountainous terrain. It was filmed at historical locations in Delhi including the Red Fort, Jantar Mantar, Qutub Minar, Purana Qila, Rashtrapati Bhavan and Lodhi Gardens.[6]

While promoting the film in Gujarat, Aamir Khan made some comments regarding the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's handling of the Narmada Dam and the necessity to rehabilitate the displaced villagers.[22][23] These comments were met with outrage from the Bharatiya Janata Party. The government of Gujarat demanded an apology from Khan. Khan refused to apologise, saying "I am saying exactly what the Supreme Court has said. I only asked for rehabilitation of poor farmers. I never spoke against the construction of the dam. I will not apologise for my comments on the issue."[24] An unofficial ban of Fanaa was put in place for the entire state of Gujarat. Protests occurred against the film and Khan which included the burning of posters of the star in effigy. As a result, several multiplex owners stated that they could not provide security to customers. Thus, all theatre owners in Gujarat refused to screen the movie.[25]

Producer Aditya Chopra moved a petition to the Supreme Court of India asking them to direct the Gujarat government to provide protection to all cinema halls that wanted to screen the film, but was rejected.[26] Their response was that if a cinema was concerned for their protection they could call on the police. Aditya's father Yash Chopra in the meantime also sought protection from then-Chief Minister Narendra Modi as well as open discussions to release the film in Gujarat without any disruption. Khan also received support from a number of Bollywood stars including Anil Kapoor, Govind Nihalani, Ashutosh Gowariker and Subhash Ghai as well as Anupam Kher and Hrithik Roshan all of whom reiterated that Khan had done no wrong in expressing his views.

Addressing the media, director Kunal Kohli said, "All theatre owners or exhibitors who wish to release this film can request for protection and the government should extend support. We as filmmakers request all theatre owners of Gujarat to come forward and release the film. We have earned 470 million (both domestic and overseas) in the first week and have lost approximately 6 to 70 million of business in Gujarat. However it's not about money... it is about a principle. As a democratic country where Aamir has a right to say what he feels, even the people of Gujarat, who are protesting have the right to say what they feel ... but in a democratic fashion, and not by burning posters and threatening people."[27]

and its similiar to a song from film HUM TUM - but i think the song was cut off in the editing room . the HUM TUM song is called YAARA YAARA try to hear both and u will find out

The album opens with Shaan and Kailash Kher's contrasting vocal presences in Chand sifarish. Well versed and rhythmic in melody, the vibrant number is an instant hit on the senses. Incidentally, the song features a whistle theme, which is the tune of the unused Yaara yaara from Hum Tum. Chand sifarish is featured once again in a zippy and rocking avatar as the club mix version, Fanaa for you by DJ Aqueel.

The first thing that strikes you about Mere haath mei is the arrangement by Salim-Sulaiman is clearly inspired by A R Rahman's style. Listen to it and you'll know what I mean. Be patient on this one, though. Rendered soulfully by Sonu Nigam [Images] and Sunidhi Chauhan [Images], the romantic rhapsody takes its own sweet time to grow on the listener. But the occasional voiceovers by Fanaa's lead protagonists -- Aamir Khan and Kajol -- grate on your nerves.

It's time for filmi jingoism in the form of Des Rangila. Basically a functional composition it is never close to extraordinary. The vibrancy and richness of Prasoon Joshi's pen particularly stand out. Even so the lacklustre Rangila relies on fancily uttered Vande Matarams, by the chorus, to force a listener to pay attention.

Unhurried and mild in its tempo and mood, Dekho na's diluted mushiness fails to ignite sparks. The strains are too sombre and hence become too bland for their own good.

Hum Tum's idle track Yaara yaara gains more mileage here. It is transformed into a full-blown fresh act with a new name, Chanda chamke. Babul Supriyo and Mahalaxmi Iyer along with Khan, Kajol and Master Akshay Bhagwat enthusiastically perform this tongue twister of a melody. Though limited musically, Chanda is entertaining nevertheless.

The lounge mix, Destroyed in love is a scattered compilation of bits and pieces of Fanaa songs. It is neither unconventionally experimental nor conventionally tuneful.

The subject of Fanaa is not fluffy. It's the love story between a terrorist and a blind woman after all. J-L's soundtrack fails to have intense character or lend passionate nuances to this complicated romance.

It was their second movie, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander, which catapulted them to Bollywood success. For 16 years, Jatin-Lalit composed music that wowed millions. The films they have composed music for reads like a Best of Bollywood compilation: Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge [Images], Kuch Kuch Hota Hai [Images], Kabhi Kushi Kabhie Gham, Khamoshi

Jatin: I don't agree with that. People have been calling me up to say how great the music is. Actually this music is different. It grows on you, and then it will not leave you. Yash Raj Productions have not been publicising the soundtrack. These songs have potential, they will be hits. Songs don't become popular only if you listen to them day and night on all the channels.

Fanaa Kar Lo Lyrics (फन कर ल Lyrics in Hindi): Fanaa Kar Lo is the most recent Starfish movie song sung by Arijit Singh and music is composed by Oaff, Savera. Fanaa Kar Lo Lyrics are penned by Ankur Tewari. Fanaa Kar Lo music video is directed by Akhilesh Jaiswal. The film stars Khushalii Kumar, Milind Soman, Ehan Bhat, Tusharr Khanna in pivotal roles. Starfish movie song Fanaa Kar Lo is published under the label of T-Series in 2023.
