Greetings Everyone,
I’ve attached a pdf file of the final edited version of my booklet, “A Buddhist’s Insight into the 12 Steps of Recovery”. This little booklet is my gift to the worldwide community of Buddhists in recovery and anyone in recovery who turns to Buddhism as part of their spiritual path. I began writing it after realizing as the leader of a Buddhist Recovery Sangha that there are many powerful books on Buddhism and recovery written by several brilliant and skillful authors, but very little material in the way of short informational booklets and brochures that could be given away free to anyone new to, or interested in, Buddhist Recovery. I am grateful to Susan Kron, who was the copy editor of Encyclopedia of Eastern Philosophy and Religion, for donating her time working on the final edit of this booklet as well as all my brothers and sisters from the recovery and Buddhist communities who also contributed their time and insight toward this project. I haven’t included their names to protection their anonymity. I’ve changed the spelling of my first name and only used the last initial of my last name to maintain the 12 Step tradition of anonymity, as well as to protect my career as a martial arts instructor from possible repercussions that might rise from the telling my own story. I would be honored if you would freely share it with anyone interested in, or seeking a connection between Buddhism and Recovery. This note officially gives you permission to reprint and distribute “A Buddhist’s Insight into the 12 Steps” freely as you see fit. This email and attached booklet was broadcast to approximately 50 Buddhist Recovery groups in North America
Palms Together in Love and Respect,
Dug
