How to Play Xbox One Games on Your PC with Xenia

If you are a fan of Xbox One games and want to enjoy them on your PC, you might be interested in Xenia, an open-source emulator that can run Xbox One titles on Windows. Xenia is regarded by many as being the best of the best Xbox emulators on the internet[^2^]. It can produce results comparable to the graphics of the original Xbox One and support many popular games such as Halo, Gears of War, Forza Horizon and more.

In this article, we will show you how to download, install and configure Xenia to play Xbox One games on your PC. You will need a Windows 10 PC with a 64-bit processor, a DirectX 12 compatible GPU, and at least 8 GB of RAM. You will also need an Xbox One game disc or an ISO file of the game you want to play.

Step 1: Download Xenia

The first step is to download Xenia from its official website: xenia.jp/. You can choose between the master branch or the canary branch. The master branch is more stable but has fewer features, while the canary branch is more experimental but has more updates. We recommend using the master branch for better compatibility.

Once you download the zip file, extract it to a folder of your choice. You should see a file named xenia.exe inside the folder. This is the main executable of the emulator.

Step 2: Install Visual C++ Redistributable

The next step is to install Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015, 2017 and 2019. This is a prerequisite for running Xenia. You can download it from this link: aka.ms/vs/16/release/vc_redist.x64.exe. Run the installer and follow the instructions to complete the installation.

Step 3: Configure Xenia

The third step is to configure Xenia to suit your preferences. To do this, run xenia.exe and go to File > Settings. You will see a window with various options for graphics, audio, input and more. Here are some of the settings you can tweak:

    • Graphics: You can choose between Vulkan or D3D12 as the rendering backend. Vulkan is more compatible but may have performance issues on some GPUs, while D3D12 is faster but may have graphical glitches on some games. You can also enable or disable VSync, fullscreen mode, resolution scaling and other options.
    • Audio: You can choose between XAudio2 or OpenAL as the audio backend. XAudio2 is more accurate but may have latency issues on some systems, while OpenAL is more flexible but may have compatibility issues on some games. You can also adjust the volume and mute/unmute the audio.
    • Input: You can choose between Keyboard/Mouse or XInput as the input method. Keyboard/Mouse allows you to use your keyboard and mouse to control the game, while XInput allows you to use an Xbox controller or any other controller that supports XInput. You can also customize the key bindings or controller mappings for each game.
    • Network: You can enable or disable network features such as online multiplayer and achievements. Note that not all games support online functionality with Xenia.
    • General: You can change the language, theme and other general settings of Xenia.

After you are done with configuring Xenia, click OK to save your settings.

Step 4: Load an Xbox One Game

The final step is to load an Xbox One game and start playing. To do this, go to File > Open and browse for your game disc or ISO file. Xenia will scan the game and load it if it is compatible. You should see the game's logo and title screen on Xenia's window.

To play the game, use your keyboard/mouse or controller as you would on an Xbox One console. You can also access Xenia's menu by pressing
