Subject: Big XII 7's Tourney (National Qualifier)

Gene,

Sorry about the late update but I thought I would send this to you since the match form won't work very well for reporting the results from the Big XII 7's tourney...

I reffed 6 matches and then ran touch for the finals.

There were 6 teams split into two pools.

Pool A was Oklahoma University, Texas University and Oklahoma State.
Pool B was Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Kansas State.

Each team played a round robin and then the first place in each pool played the second place team from the other pool and the last place teams played for a consolation match.

The results of the pool play were:

Pool A -  OU (first), Texas (second) and OSU (third)
Pool B- Texas A&M (first), Texas Tech (second) and KSU (third).

Randy and I alternated the matches and we each did half of the pool matches.

The results of the pool matches that I reffed were:

A&M 21 Texas Tech 7
Texas 33 OSU 12
A&M 31 KSU 12

The semi-finals were OU vs Texas Tech and Texas A&M vs Texas.

I officiated the A&M vs Texas match with A&M winning 7-0.

I also officiated the OSU vs KSU match with KSU winning 15-10.

I then reffed the third place match with Texas defeating Texas Tech 17-10.

I ran touch in the final...OU vs Texas A&M.  Both teams agreed to 7 minute halves rather than the standard 10 minute halves.

OU took an early lead 7-0 and then A&M scored before half to make it 7-5 at halftime.

A&M scored midway in the second half  to take the lead 12-7.  OU scored with no time left to tie the game 12-12.  OU scored it at center posts and had a chance to win the match then and there but OU missed the easy conversion, thus the match went into overtime.

There would be two 3 minute periods and then a sudden dead period.  The second 3 minute period and the overtime period would be played if the match was still tied at the end of each period.

In the first overtime period - A&M scored and OU did not thus A&M won the match and the tourney 19-12.

No yellow or red cards were issued all day.

Randy (from Dallas - ERRFU ref) was the other referee and he handled the final.

The fields were properly marked and the posts were padded.

Ropes were set up on both sidelines and the team areas were also roped off.  The scoreboard was manned by some OU people and they updated the scores promptly and accurately.  No issues there...

The CIPP lists were verified prior to the start of the tourney and all coaches and officials (Randy and myself) verified the listings.

Let me know if you need anything else.
