Mafiahas grown gracefully over the last two decades. The game revolves around themes of loyalty, betrayal, and family as you play as Tommy Angelo as he ascends the ranks of the Mafia. The Definitive Edition is a full-blown remake, and adds all sorts of loving and small touches to the game while retaining the general story and missions.

One of the most enjoyable parts of playing Mafia is the wide range of weapons. This article focuses exclusively on firearms and melee weapons, which means that throwable explosives like dynamite, Molotovs, and grenades have been off the list.

They're the least powerful weapon and have little to no appeal. If you're desperate, though, fists will have to work. On the positive side, you'll never not have your hands, meaning you won't be without some way of fighting back.

The baseball bat has lots of appeal after films like Goodfellas and The Sopranos used it, but this is not the strongest melee weapon available. Still, it's better than your fists, and it gives a nice, solid thwak when cracked against some gangster's head.

While the wooden plank feels comparable damage-wise to the baseball bat, it ranks higher due to scarcity. You likely won't be using this for very long, but when you do, at least it's something different.

The pipe seems comparable in damage to the wooden plank and the baseball bat. The pipe, however, ranks higher because the animations when you use the pipe are often more memorable, if not a bit brutal and jarring.

While all the melee weapons feel comparable with damage, you can wield the knife one-handed, and it often leads to the most graphic and intense sequences out of all the melee weapons as you slice and stab your opponent.

Sniper rifles can make great weapons, but the M1903 comes with some noticeable limitations that keep it from ranking higher. First, the weapon's ammo capacity is relatively low. The M1903A1 can only hold five rounds, while another ten rounds can be carried.

Based on the United States Army's standard-issue rifle at the time Mafia is set, the weapon has an unimpressive firing rate. As a result, you rarely encounter the weapon in later game missions. If you need a sniper rifle, this is okay. Generally, though, not worth picking up.

Plenty of times in Mafia: Definitive Edition, you need a handgun rather than bigger firepower. If you need a small handgun, the 19 (which first appeared in Mafia 3 as the Alfredsson M200) is the most powerful pistol in the game.

The 19 has its shortcomings, though. For one, the 19 holds six rounds and carries an additional 18, which is lower than some other pistols. Additionally, the 19 boasts a weaker fire rate and range than some other Mafia: DE revolvers.

One of the most popular handguns during its era due to good firing rates, strong accuracy, and reliability, the M1911 holds 7 rounds and can carry an additional 21 rounds for a 28-round total capacity.

While the Lupara might not be the most powerful or best weapon in the game, it ranks higher because this is perhaps the most historically accurate weapon in the game. The Prohibition-era Sicilian Mafia relied on the Lupara to settle scores.

This is best known as the gold shotgun, which is a slight improvement from the Lupara (see below) because it holds three rounds while you can carry an additional 12 for a total of 15-round capacity. The third round in the chamber can make all the difference.

The biggest setback is the 870 was not introduced until the 1950s, which means that Prohibition-era mobsters were not using it, putting a slight dent on the game's immersion. The third round in the 870 keeps it from being ranked much lower like the Colt Python.

The Smith & Wesson Model 10 boasts an impressive six rounds, and you can an additional 30 rounds, giving the weapon a bigger capacity than most other one-handed weapons. The Model 10 replaces the Colt Detective Special from the first version of the game. This is the first weapon you find, but that does not mean it's a bad one.

The Thompson M1928 is one of the most iconic gangster-era guns. It's not just the period appropriateness that places this weapon at the top of the list. This is also the only sole full automatic weapon in the game. Making things even better, the M1928 also has a round of 50 rounds and players can carry an additional three magazines, or 200 rounds, which makes this the biggest capacity weapon in the game.

I don't think any stats of the sort exist for the game, so it all comes down to personal preference. I find that the MP40 and Magnum are my two preferred weapons. The MP40 is more accurate than the Thompson M1928, and I honestly can't find a difference apart from visuals and magazine size for the M1A1 and M1928 Thompsons. I really hate the Grease Gun though - it fires so slowly that I can't be bothered with it.

The Mauser C96 and M1911 Special are both pretty decent too. The C96 can be purchased at Harry's Surplus later in the game, and the M1911 Special is available at Giuseppe's after completing the mission where you receive one. If there is a particular weapon you like, keep using it until you run out of ammo. For example, I dislike the M1911 in game for whatever reason, and I find the .38 Revolver works for me as well. Try everything and use what you like - most of the guns in-game kill in a few shots anyway, so whatever you like can be defined as 'the best'.

I find the magnum the most fun pistol. I would like the 1911 more if you could fire it as fast as the snub nose, fuck knows why you cant. It is semi auto after all you should be able to fire it as fast as you can click.

Weapons are used by the player as job prerequisites and in heists, war, hitlisting, fights with other players or bosses. Each weapon has an attack and defense rating for whichever the player is currently doing. The higher these ratings, the better the chance of victory. When fighting, a player can utilize 1 weapon for as many people are currently in their mafia - up to a maximum of 501.

Each city has its own selection of weapons that can be bought depending on the level of the player, however weapons can also be obtained through many other ways. Certain jobs in each city have the ability to yield equipment when they are performed (called looting). Looting can also occur during fights, although the losing player does not forfeit their weapon, rather the winning player will just sometimes gain a random loot item. Upon complete mastery of a job tier or Limited Time Job, a special weapon can be rewarded. Occasionally, weapons can be won in contests like the Two Minute Hustle or received through Loot Events and the Free Gift program.

Weapons can also be purchased from the Godfather directly. Every Monday and Wednesday, New items are offered at 25 Reward Points for 2 days. Every Thursday, old items are offered in the Weekly Sale at a discount price for 3 days. Every month, new crates can be bought from the Godfather, which contain 1 item, usually from a past Loot Event. In addition, every Thursday, new limited edition loot is sold at $10,000 for the entire week. $10,000 Limited Edition Loot can also be obtained by winning/helping in a war, winning the Daily Chance, or through the Free Gift program.Furthermore, some weapons are obtained through miscellaneous means, such as a special gift from Zynga, and even more weapons are known to exist through administrator accounts but have not been authorized for public release.

Personal alarm keychains are excellent self defense products for women that emit high-pitched loud noises to deter predators, discourage active attackers, and alert bystanders to either call the police or physically intervene.

Personal alarms are inexpensive, lightweight, small, and can be easily attached to your keys in your bag or purse. Modern personal alarms are stylish and come with features such as LED flashlights and pull-out alarm cords.

Most personal alarm keychains are activated by either pressing a button or pulling a cord to turn the alarm on. The functionality of a personal alarm is straightforward and doesn't involve multiple or complicated steps.

Personal alarms can be a very effective self defense weapon for women. They create noisy, attention-grabbing situations which are the exact opposite of what most perpetrators seek in a criminal opportunity. Additionally, they can attract the attention of bystanders in the surrounding area which will alert them to call the police or personally intervene and help you.

Best practices for personal alarms are to take them with you when you are entering situations with a higher risk of danger - working late at the office, going out with friends at night, or traveling overseas.

Open Point Rings are self defense rings with openly displayed sharp points which are soft to the touch and won't cause damage or pain from incidental contact, but fierce on a fist and able to add a powerful whomp to a punch.

They are immediately accessible and don't require any retrieval from your bag, arming, unlocking, or unsheathing. Simply wear your self defense ring, and use your natural instinctive self defense moves like punching and striking to fight off an aggressor.

Cat Ear Keychains must be retrieved or removed from your bag or keychain and then gripped through the "eyes" of the keychain with the sharp ears pointing outward. Holding your Cat Ears Keychain, you can use instinctive defensive moves like punching and striking an aggressor to defend yourself.
