If some brave soul (I'm not volunteering) would engage in such advocacy in Florida after prior coordination with the ACLU and suitable media outlets, this could lead to something akin to the Scopes monkey trial, generating the public attention that we pine for.

Five years doesn’t come close to undoing their destruction. How about until the thermal excess they have caused goes away, by itself (a few million years), or with human assistance (perhaps a few decades if well designed and targeted)? Or when healthy coral reefs return?

While I'm thinking about this, as you are the vocabulary man, how about we start referring to all the things that can be done to restore climatic stability as "remedial geo-engineering"? By forcing the word "remedial", we are telling people that we're undoing damage, and we are highlighting the massive amount of geo-engineering that has been done by the hydrocarbon industry.

If we had of called it climate pollution treatment to start with, none of this would have ever happened. Burning fossil fuels is geoengineering, plain and simple. Removing forests for agriculture is geoengineering, plain and simple. Atmospheric cooling is the most prominent form of pollution treatment that has ever occurred in our world: dilution.
Geoengineering is not the use of cooling strategies to dilute atmospheric heat, it is the same concept that electrical generation facilities uses to dilute their excess heat in cooling towers, reservoirs, lakes, and oceans. It is the same concept that industry uses in elevating flue and process atmospheric discharges so that by the time they get to where they can cause damage, the pollutants are dilute enough to be of little consequence.
It is the same pollution treatment concept as the oldest pollution treatment process in the world of combined sewers to dilute human sewage with rainfall runoff - first used in ancient Rome and still in widespread use today in the US as per EPA, "CSOs (combined sewer overflows) are a major water pollution and public health concern for approximately 700 communities in the United States. CSOs can contain bacteria, debris, and other hazardous substances that can be harmful to people, pets, and wildlife."
