Hi Mike and Robbie,

Seeing this paper https://www.nature.com/articles/s41560-025-01925-3 it is nice to see that another of my concepts has independent scientific support. Whilst CNT will have many uses, those able to make sheet graphene, or Few Layer Turbostratic Graphene (FLTG), should have many and much more - such as in powerlines and supercapacitors to replace fossil fuels and chemical batteries for transport and energy storage purposes.
One difference from my approach is that they do not use gaseous carbon, but molecular precursors.
One wonders whether their CNT aerogel mat might also be formed into high-strength electrical cable.
Can you work out how their CNT aerogel could extract CO2 from the air?

If suppliers, regulation or international agreement can ensure that increasing proportions of methane from natural gas are processed in these largely emission-free ways, there is no reason why we should not continue to extract it.

Here is what AI says of the CNT market potential

The value of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) lies in their exceptional strength, conductivity, and lightweight nature, driving a rapidly growing multi-billion dollar market (projected to exceed $8B by 2030-2034) used in electronics, batteries (EVs), aerospace, and composites, though costs vary widely from hundreds to thousands of dollars per gram depending on purity and type (SWCNT vs. MWCNT), with falling prices enabling broader applications in everyday items.
Market Value & Growth
  • Market Size: The global CNT market was valued at several billion dollars in 2024 and is expected to reach over $8 billion by 2030-2034.
  • Growth Drivers: Increased demand in electric vehicles (EVs), electronics, healthcare, energy storage, and aerospace fuels significant growth.
Key Properties & Applications
  • Mechanical Strength: Stronger than steel, ideal for lightweight composites in aerospace, sports equipment, and protective gear.
  • Electrical Conductivity: Excellent conductors, used in next-gen transistors, sensors, and to create conductive polymers for anti-static packaging and EMI shielding in devices.
  • Thermal Properties: High thermal conductivity beneficial for heat management.
  • Energy Storage: Enhancing battery performance, especially in EVs.
Cost & Types
  • Price Variation: Prices range from ~$100 to $1,000+ per gram for high-purity single-walled CNTs (SWCNTs), while multi-walled CNTs (MWCNTs) are cheaper and dominate volume.
  • Cost Reduction: Lowering prices (e.g., to $200/lb) opens up mass-market uses like additives for plastics and fabrics, notes this blog post from Polymer Nano Centrum.
Future Potential
  • CNTs are seen as revolutionary materials, potentially replacing silicon in future electronics and enabling lighter, stronger, more efficient products across many industries.
At even a fraction of these prices, such processes run at scale (and using only renewable energy when it is cheap or free) should dramatically reduce the cost of turquoise hydrogen. Any nanocarbon excess might find good use as soil biochar.

Clive, might NOAC discuss these ideas?

Your thoughts, Mike?

Hi Sev

Thanks for this info: Wonderful method to change the fossil fuel methane without any CO2 generation into carbon nanotubes and hydrogen. According to their enormous amount of internal surface carbon nanotubes may be used as excellent adsorbants for gas, water and possible soil cleaning operations and also for capacitors and electric energy storage materials.

Meanwhile we found a method to substantially decrease the enormous costs for neutralizing of the acid-generating ship engine flue gas according to the new IMO rules. This is an economically very attractive method in comparison to the used technique. Next o its economic attractivity our method has the side effect of changing the generated salt into a CCN salt aerosol for producing reflective (Earth albedo increase) and methane oxidizing and tropospheric ozone depleting clouds clouds (greenhouse gas depletion) and after washed out of the atmosphere into the ocean this salt increases the phytoplankton growth (CO2 depletion) by some of its components. This will also show how even fossil fuels may help to restore the climate. It is well known that also a healthy photic ocean layer is able to restore the pH of its environment and that it will increase the DMS emission. Phytoplankton is one of the most important links in the marine food chain and will attract and feed more krill, fish and mammals which again produces more ammonia from the faeces generated. Taking all together these effects again activates the generation of reflective oxidant clouds.

The analysis of the pilot device and its emission parameters, cloud and haze reflectivity, methane and iropospheric ozone depletion capacity will show at the end if all the mentioned cooling effects might even compensate the heating effect of the marine transport generated CO2 emissions.

If so, this would be an example how to cool the climate by combustion of a fossil fuel.
