The Climate Emergency Forum was honored last week to have an opportunity to speak with Tzeporah Berman, the initiator of the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty initiative and a key force behind the recent groundbreaking conference held in Columbia on how the nations of the world can transition away from fossil fuels.
What I found so refreshing was her willingness to paint a very nuanced and realistic picture of what happened at the conference both in public and behind the scenes, and the daunting challenges that of course still remain towards achieving the absolutely essential goal of minimizing if not eliminating the use of fossil fuels as soon as humanly possible.
Tzeporah is one of my Climate heroes and she demonstrated why with a level of sophistication and commitment rare to find in any sector.
I think there are lessons that we can learn from the progress she’s made in constructing from scratch a ‘coalition of the ambitious’ as she labeled those countries in support of phasing out fossil fuels.
