Ive been a loyal CCleaner user for years. Never had any problems so I wanted to buy the product. Signed up for the trial, ran the driver updater, trusted it to update the correct drivers, and suddenly my computer would only restart to blue screen. System restore points wouldn't work either.
I fixed this by restarting in safe mode with networking, opening CCleaner, going to driver updater again, "fix this problem", only to find CCleaner can only restore drivers it originally installed... So the advice on their website did not help me one bit.
Next, I went to the windows search bar and typed recovery, found system restore, and that's where I'm at. Last night the system could not restore from command prompt, but hopefully it can restore from safe mode since I got it to reboot.
CCleaner, remove the genius that developed the driver updater and instead have him at the ready to "chat now" with working chat now option so toy can help your users with this? This could sink your company. It's costing your basic PC user a lot of money to FIX YOUR PROBLEM.
Bruh all you had to do is temporarily boot into "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement" mode and see IF it boots, if it does then test audio, then try a normal reboot, if it BSODs then just reboot back into "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement" and revert the Realtek driver to the previous version or simply uninstall it entirely, this isn't Piriforms problem your PC crashed because windows apparently didn't want to boot the machine with a new Realtek driver that hasn't gotten approved by microsoft yet, that's literally WHY your pc would refuse to boot (unless via disable driver verification mode).
This driver RTKVHD64.sys causes so many BSOD's for so many people all the time, this has nothing to do with Piriforms product and what it does, next time maybe go search up google about exactly what driver it is, why it crashed and what to do rather than post on the forums saying "DO NOT USE" and scaring people for no reason.
I just updated my drivers, which included Realtek audio as well (yes, RTKVHD64.sys driver is a part of the update) and rebooted just fine. Some people get boned by it, some do not, it's just down to luck and your pc model and age, blame Realtek
bulls**t, see my reply above to the other user, that Realtek driver is always causing problems for people, this isn't a fatal problem done by Ccleaner, all you had to do is boot in "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement" and see IF it does boot and you do have audio, after that a normal reboot should work, if not reboot in that same mode and uninstall the damn drivers and let windows reinstall them instead, it'll be an slightly older version but it'll be a verified by microsoft one so.
The same happened to me. After using CCleaner's Driver Updater, many programs became disfunctional, all 4 USP ports stopped working, a sheer nightmare. It seems I have spend hundreds of pounds to buy a replacement laptop. I employ a real expert for help in this matter - and all he could finally recommend is to re-install Windows 10 from scratch. The latest version is to come out 0n November 10, 2021.
I've been a fan of CCleaner for many years. I had an older version and everything was working fine. I bought the new update 2 days ago to clean my new i9... I ran the drivers updater.... My Windows crashed beyond repair.
currently facing this issue as well but don't even have the luxury of booting into any of the safe modes cus they're all BSOD as well. so disappointing and time consuming. at risk of forking out my own money just to fix this to retrieve my data since not all of them are backed up, seeing that a reinstall is the only way. bit wild how a singular software can affect the operation of a whole system..
Judging on appearance alone, Driver Updater may seem legitimate and useful, however, this app often infiltrates systems without permission, since developers distribute it using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling". For these reasons, Driver Updater is categorized as a potentially unwanted application (PUA).
The main purpose of the Driver Updater app is to update/install drivers. It allows users to scan the system to detect outdated/missing drivers and fix everything in one click. Note, however, that the 'free version' of Driver Updater is only able to scan the system and cannot fix issues. Therefore, users are encouraged to purchase the so-called 'full version'.
This is not worth risking. Be aware that many "bundled" applications are deceptive. They feed users with false scan results just to trick them into activating paid software. Therefore, Driver Updater might also be one of these rogue apps, and thus you should consider uninstalling this application.
In addition, "bundling" is often used to proliferate several potentially unwanted applications at once. There is a high probability that Driver Updater is not the only PUA that has infiltrated your computer. In most cases, "bundling" is used to distribute adware and browser hijackers.
These apps deliver intrusive advertisements, cause unwanted redirects, and gather sensitive information. Therefore, as well as uninstalling Driver Updater, you should remove other dubious applications.
Most of these apps serve just one purpose: to generate revenue for the developers. These unwanted applications deliver ads, cause redirects, and gather information, thereby diminishing the browsing experience and posing a direct threat to your privacy and web browsing safety.
As mentioned above, developers promote Driver Updater using intrusive advertisements and a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" - installation of third party apps together with regular software. Developers hide "bundled" apps within "Custom/Advanced" settings of the download/installation processes.
Caution is the key to computer safety. Therefore, pay close attention when browsing the internet and downloading/installing software. Carefully analyze each step of the download/installation processes and opt-out of additionally-included programs.
Furthermore, potentially unwanted applications are also often distributed using the aforementioned intrusive ads, which redirect to infectious sites and execute scripts that download and install malware.
These advertisements usually seem legitimate, since developers invest many resources into their design, but they usually redirect to dubious websites (gambling, adult dating, pornography, etc.). If you experience these redirects, eliminate all dubious applications and browser plug-ins.
Right-click on the Start icon, select Apps and Features. In the opened window search for the application you want to uninstall, after locating it, click on the three vertical dots and select Uninstall.
After uninstalling the potentially unwanted application, scan your computer for any remaining unwanted components or possible malware infections. To scan your computer, use recommended malware removal software.
At time of research Driver Updater did not install any unwanted browser extensions, however, some unwanted applications can be installed together with adware and browser hijackers. If you experience unwanted ads or redirects when browsing the internet, continue with the removal guide below.
Click the Edge menu icon (at the upper-right corner of Microsoft Edge), select "Extensions". Locate all recently-installed suspicious browser add-ons and click "Remove" below their names.
If you continue to have problems with removal of the driver updater potentially unwanted application, reset your Microsoft Edge browser settings. Click the Edge menu icon (at the top right corner of Microsoft Edge) and select Settings.
Select Restore settings to their default values. In the opened window, confirm that you wish to reset Microsoft Edge settings to default by clicking the Reset button.
