++++++++++++++++++++++

Our workgroup is at a crossroad with no obvious path to the future.  The Identity ecosystem details we've been discussing for several years and the recommendations for design and implementation, building upon the original NSTIC guidelines seems to be dependent on government deciding what should be the next steps and how they might be funded.
There has been a lot of technical and administrative progress over the past decade around Id assurance, but still much more to gain acceptance of the IDESG principles.

I propose we do some brainstorming tomorrow with "nothing off the table" about next projects, including abundant use cases, let alone the growing debate around vaccine credentials. Apropos, I like the Greek "omicron" and how many highly paid news anchors say "omnicron" (thinking of my personal history of having studied ancient Greek in college😀)

We have incredible expertise within the current and former active members of this workgroup.
I hope many or most of you can attend tomorrow to share current work and offer new directions.

Unfortunately, Jim Kragh will not be able to attend due to an important conflict tomorrow.

To the HIAWG meeting:
Here is where i believe some guidance can be developed.
The overarching problem is proof of presence, in Lily Tomlin's parlance, "Is this the party to whom i am speaking?"
The use cases are:
1. telemedicine
2. public health - specifically covid creds.
The solution is likely to include biometrics of some sort mediated by the smart phone.
The following link contains a use case that I consider to be the most likely issue; linking the covid cred to the image on the mobile Driver's license.

Be the change you want to see in the world ..tom

Thanks for this Tom! -- "Is this the party to whom i am speaking?"

I'll add a couple of thoughts --

1.    What are the felt problems (related in some way to identity) of the healthcare enterprise? Can we help?

2.    Healthcare (and everyone else) is facing the obsolescence end of RSA and elliptical curve.  We are not encryption experts (I don't think . . .) but business planning for quantum-based vulnerability of the basis of most  "strong authentication" credentials may be only a couple of years away. Can we help by making noise about this?

3.    Ransomware is a top concern of healthcare providers and part of the defenses is zero-trust, of which the core component is fine-grained authorization.  Can we help?

4.  Support for federation of credentials across healthcare providers is needed.  Can we help.

Martin
