Dear colleagues,

‘Six months ago it was a different world,’ says Dr Axel Klaphake, Director of Economic and Social Development for Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, pointing at the need for public-private synergies in times of COVID-19.

The open source software for social protection, openIMIS, has come a long way. We feature how different countries use it to administer social health protection and show its evolution into a digital global good.

Though still bruised from the Ebola outbreak Guinea’s health system works hard to deal with the next pandemic. And a new guide for programme planners on reducing access barriers to health services has just been released and deserves your attention.

Enjoy the reading and stay safe!

How can access barriers to health services be removed?

According to UNAIDS, 62% of adult HIV infections in 2019 were amongst sex workers, gay men, men who have sex with men, transgender people, prisoners and drug users and their sexual partners.
