Editorial

Dear colleagues,

A sense of urgency characterised this year’s World Health Summit where many called for a change in the nature of the dialogue between countries and development partners. How German Development Cooperation contributes to this change was illustrated at a discussion on joint action to eradicate cervical cancer; at a meeting of African ministers with German investors; and at an event focusing on what German y does to End Polio Now!. A few days earlier, delegates at the 17th International Dialogue on Population and Sustainable Development agreed that greater unity amongst partners was needed to make health for all a reality.

Meanwhile, great work is being done by German-supported programmes in Africa and Asia: In Malawi, local health facilities are going digital to allow health workers access to real time health data; in Liberia, investments in laboratory staff, equipment and infrastructure are yielding promising results, while in EAC, mobile laboratories help enhance epidemic preparedness. Last not least, in Cambodia, improved institutional arrangements are ushering in a new era of social protection.

Enjoy the reading!
