Convincing communities that vaccines are safe and countering misinformation is a major challenge to public health efforts all around the world. Germany is supporting Malawi’s Ministry of Health in piloting an electronic patient register in a rural health centre, which replaces paper records and gives health workers a reliable, cost-effective tool for improving diagnoses and treatment at the same time as automatically contributing valuable data to the national health information system. Malawi’s poor road infrastructure and heavy rains mean that remote health centres frequently run out of essential medicines. Now the Drone and Data Aid project is not only using the latest technology to improve supply chains to hard-to-reach areas, but also inspiring young Malawians to become the drone pilots of the future at Africa’s first Drone and Data Academy.
