There is an interesting post at Health Beat (a healthcare blog by
Maggie Mahar) on whether a chronically ill individual's education
level and socioeconomic status have an effect on their ability to
"adopt and adhere to complex new treatments" and self-manage the
illness. This post uses diabetes as an example, but the idea really
could apply to any chronic illness. In your coaching experience, is
there a link between education levels and successful self-management?
If so, how can health coaches compensate for a lack of education in
individuals and move that person toward successful self-management?
As the managing editor for the Healthcare Intelligence Network, I look
forward to your replies.
