Icame across the quote above from contemporary artist Mark Ryden and it struck a chord with me. So, often an image has a feeling to it that is beyond words that adequately describe it. I know I have sometimes written about a piece of mine and even though I have tried to fully describe how it strikes me, I often feel that the words fall well short.

His work is engaging and appealing on many levels with recurring themes that run through the work. It is rich in symbolism though I think there is so much ambiguity that one could get lost in trying to decode many of the paintings. Which makes his statement about the image itself being its own meaning even more understandable.

I also came across another quote from Ryden that hits close to home for me: I believe if you follow your heart and do what you love, success will follow. If you enchant yourself, others will be too.

I have surveyed more than 10 commentaries on this, some comment on these verses specifically, and the ones that do disagree somewhat. It is not clear to me if the meaning of these words is clear, or if they are somewhat ambiguous. Also are they connected?

Perhaps Jesus is referring to the Jews and their guardianship of the Law, or their added law, i.e. it is a negative statement. Perhaps Jesus is referring to gifting/knowledge/understanding, i.e. its a positive statement, for those who handle their talents well.

If verse 24 is a reference to Jews, then verse 25 is a bit more problematic, perhaps, those without the law have its requirements taken away? If verse 24 is a reference to handling gifts, then 25 is completely straightforward.

Mar 4:10 And when he was alone, those around him with the twelve asked him about the parables. Mar 4:11 And he said to them, "To you has been given the secret of the kingdom of God, but for those outside everything is in parables,

Measurement is comparison to a standard. The proper standard is the value to the reign of God. So Jesus is saying that one must choose their measuring device properly because when the measuring device that they choose to measure Jesus' words will become the measuring device by which God and Jesus will measure them:

Mat 13:51 "Have you understood all these things?" They said to him, "Yes." Mat 13:52 And he said to them, "Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house, who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old." Mat 13:53 And when Jesus had finished these parables, he went away from there,

Mat 13:13 This is why I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. Mat 13:14 Indeed, in their case the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled that says: "'"You will indeed hear but never understand, and you will indeed see but never perceive." Mat 13:15 For this people's heart has grown dull, and with their ears they can barely hear, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them.'

So Jesus is saying to take the secret of God's deferred kingdom and use it as a measuring device against all they hear and they will come to great insights and success while those who fail to do that will lose any insight and success that they already have attained.

"Measure"; i.e., "Significance." It logically follows that, the more serously one receives the Word, the more diligently one will pursue further insight; the result is that one will continually grow.

Jesus is contrasting the disposition of the crowds with that of his apostle, where as the crowds are just satisfied in hearing the parables, and are not inclined to learn the explanations of the parables. The inquisitive Apostle and his followers are blessed with the explanations and more parables.

That is, to the extent/measure the disciples pay interest and show attention to his teaching and apply the Godly wisdom to themselves, they will benefit accordingly. If they give him their greatest interest and attention they will benefit all the more, and He will respond by giving them more spiritual truth, and enlightenment . However if they show little interest , that little which they have, will be taken away from them.

One must know, how a man knows God is not how God Knows him. His word always stirs a hunger in us to pursue and by that we come to a place of understanding to continue our relationship with Him. One Word I finding constantly in Jesus teaching "continue, persistent" and others that holds the same meaning as such. We must also know provision has been made for us in our pursuit, reading 2 Peter 1-3 and continuing from V 5-11 tells what should be added to enrich us in Him. Now considering the discussion above let consider how Apostle Paul praise the People of Berea over Thessalonica. Paul speaks of them as being open-minded, noble for they eagerly received the message, examining carefully scriptures every day and that was the attitude of Jesus disciples at that time and Jesus by that open them up to the reward attached to their time/life for the Word.

Jesus is teaching that those who diligently cultivate their faith and beliefs will be rewarded more than their effort invested. On the contrary, those who passively rely on their faith, assuming their position remains secure, may ultimately discover that they lost everything.

You can use if and let together to work with values that might be missing. These values are represented as optionals. An optional value either contains a value or contains nil to indicate that the value is missing. Write a question mark (?) after the type of a value to mark the value as optional.

If the optional value is nil, the conditional is false and the code in braces is skipped. Otherwise, the optional value is unwrapped and assigned to the constant after let, which makes the unwrapped value available inside the block of code.

It's used in the same situations you'd explicitly return nil in Objective-C, when there is no object to be returned, or for values that are not objects, constants such as NSNotFound. Optionals provide a consistent way of achieving this across all data types.

There is a whole section on the language reference iBook on Optionals, and they are mentioned several times throughout the book. You should have a thorough look at it, since it's a fundamental concept of Swift programming, and one that is not prevalent in many other languages.

I love it. Of course, the meaning of the passage can only be unlocked with knowledge of the context and the figurative language being used. However, while the storyline is certainly meaningful, there exist several significant truths that are implicated more deeply beyond the surface of the narrative as well.

Marking to market is the standard for the financial industry. It is used primarily to value financial assets and liabilities, which fluctuate in value. The accounting thus reflects both their gains and their losses in value.

Other major industries, such as retailers and manufacturers, have most of their value in long-term assets, known as property, plant, and equipment (PPE), as well as assets like inventory and accounts receivable. Not all of these assets will recoup 100% of their value. They are recorded at historic cost and then impaired as circumstances indicate. Correcting for a loss of value for these assets is called impairment rather than marking to market.

Mark-to-market losses are paper losses generated through an accounting entry rather than the actual sale of a security. Mark-to-market losses occur when financial instruments held are valued at the current market value, which is lower than the price paid to acquire them.

Mint marks are letters that identify where a coin was made. They hold the maker responsible for the quality of a coin. When the U.S. used precious metals such as gold and silver to make circulating coins, a commission evaluated the metal compositions and quality of coins from each of the Mint facilities. The evaluations ensured that each facility produced coins to the correct specifications.

Hi, I am trying to set up an automation from a blueprint, but see an exclamation mark next to the config file. I cannot find an explaination of what it indicates specifically, I assume something is wrong with the config file? But there is no indication of an error in the file itself. Nothin happens on mouseover or click on it.

I am using source control, but not for home assistant. So I know what they mean when you have it connected to source control. ! typically means the file only exists locally. So it must be overridden in the addon.

I think, we all can imagine, what it could mean. For example, if I use a pen to draw a circle on my hand, that will be a mark. But there was no pen at the time, and writing durable marks to human skin was not trivial at the time. I believe, this might be the reason, why is it interpreted as like a tattoo today. Because tattoo was known (and was forbidden since the early Old Testament era). But that is our current interpretation.

It is chapter 13 of Revelation, verses 16 & 17, that form the question, which makes it a hermeneutic question, not a Christianity one. That aside, it is a Greek word used in the text - charagma. It means "Impressed mark, engraving." It occurs eight times in the book of Revelation, all times having that meaning. See Young's Concordance, page 646.

It is indelible as the prophecy shows, because once people have it on their hand or the forehead, it identifies them for destruction. But they don't know they've got this mark, because it is not literal. It is a spiritual mark that the angels can see. It is entirely different to the mark that identifies God's people. People receive either one mark, or the other.

The sea beast has been in existence even before Daniel's visions, continuing till the Roman empire, where his visions stopped. The Roman power suffered the deadly wound (at the cross) but has wondrously revived with multiple horns / diadems = worldly (political) facets. This allows continued persecution and overcoming of the saints, even till now.
