Dear Entrepreneurs,

Daily I talk to so many companies/marketing head and I come across one common question - which one is better Linkedin ads or Google ads ?

So I thought of sharing this info to entrepreneurs in this network.

Important Points

  • Linkedin ads is purely for B-B promotion, where Google ads is for both- B-C promotion
  • For B-B promotions Linkedin is costly, but more effective compared to Google ads.
  • Google ads is better for B-C.
  • Creating effective ads on Linkedin requires more understanding of target audience. One must use "Collect leads" features on Linkedin ads.Its very useful. Where creating effective ads on Google requires more knowledge of "current keyword behavior".
  • iteration is key for successful campaigns.
These are the few important points, which is important to consider before choosing any social network for promotion.

Let me know, members experience on this.

@Naheed, the message which you want to tell to your customers, has to be very very sharp, catchy and meaningful.
It means all the communication (online ads content, social media updates, etc) has to be "most perfect". You will reach to this perfection only after iterations  There is no other way (unfortunately).

Dear Bhishm

Interesting mail. I am not a spokesperson on Digital Marketing and I am still trying to understand what it is....however I am aware that clients of ours have actually reduced their budget on Google advts. They are a B2C company...and I am not aware of any clients who have looked at Linkedin per say.

In fact I hear clients say that they are looking for a team of people who will understand their digital space and run it for them....there is a huge challenge to find the apt skill set in India - Besides if you read what is happening in the mature markets, India is yet to catch up - there is not much of a thought decision on where to put digital marketing dollars - however I am told that 'Search Marketing' is the way ahead and the digital marketer should invest in there - Help me understand if I am correct here.

I am told 42% is dedicated to search marketing of the digital marketing budget in NA and about 67% in UK....

@Shalini, yes, you are right. Its very difficult to find right talent who understand digital marketing.
Search engine marketing is dominant currently, but I am not sure about future. Its very important, but it will rule in future I really doubt.Future of online marketing depends on search engines (Google, Bing), social media (fb, twitter, linkedin), knowledge sharing platforms (slideshare, docstoc, blogs),

In India, the real problem is people don't understand importance of content. You can read numerous articles on indian blogs/websites, hardly any of them produce quality content. There it affects online marketing (because the core of online marketing is "content", not the tools, softwares).

To entrepreneurs, let me know, what are your queries (related to digital marketing), I will be happy answer them here, so that other members can also benefit from the discussion and knowledge sharing.

@Naheed, any activity/effort related to Business development can never be uneconomical.
Marketing is most important function,, it needs time and money...

The first resource you need to hire is someone who understands "digital marketing". These resources are very costly and if they leave in between this will be disastrous,, thats why companies involve digital marketing agencies.

@Bhishm : So essentially this would be more of a trial and error sort of thing? Different ads, in-depth use of analytics and long hours of frustration? :)   All of this may be uneconomical for a startup, in terms of both money and time. Been doing it for a few months now and still trying to iron out the details :)
