Hello,

I've been trying to locate the best way to accept donations for an NGO
in India. I have these requirements :

* Accept donations from India
* Accept donations from outside India

I would like to accept donations through our website, ideally with a
payment gateway that can take care of both international and domestic
transactions. I tried Paypal, but that did not work out. I understand
that there are some GOI regulations to accept international payments
which frankly I do not completely understand.

Has anyone been able to do this in the past? If so, any help would be
appreciated. Thanks.

Cheers,
Gaurav

You first need to be registered with the government (ROC, RBI, and other state regulatory agencies) as a qualified acceptor of donations. If you are a non-profit company and will enable doners to claim tax benefits then you have to conform to certain regulations in accounting.

Foreign donations is more burdensome and requirements are tougher. However, it is not impossible - if you are willing to do all the paperwork and are able/willing to keep records and do everything by the book you will find that the process is smooth

You must take the help of a CA and Company Secretary to help you navigate through this process.

cheers

Hi Gaurav

Try tracksgiving.com. It has some amazing features like event-triggered donations, automated accounting & tax exemption receipts - all through their simple API integration.

Get in touch with the founder of tracksgiving - Ritvvij Parrikh (copied in the mail).

Hello Gaurav,

We are also trying the same. We contacted CCAvenue first but they don't support receiving donations anymore. Now we are working with EBS. Looks like we will get approved. I will update you if this works out.

hope this helps ...

Hi Gaurav,
There are serveral payment gateway's who provide this solutions.
We have done this recently on www.kickforchange.in. Here the payment
gateway used was from billdesk. They provide an option to pay via
International Cards.

A similar thing was done on www.nanhikali.org where in CC Avenues was
the payment Gateway.

If you need any more information let me know.

Regards,
Rina

Hi Gaurav,

That can be done. Recently we did it on www.kickforchange.in. Here you
can pay in foreign currency via International Cards. Billdesk was the
payment gateway.
In case of Nanhi kali [www.nanhikali.org] also International Payments
were accepted. Payment Gateway was CC Avenues.

You can check these out.

Rina

Dear Gaurav,

for accepting international donation, you first have to get registered
under Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) designating a
specific bank account for the given purpose. I accept with the views
of Krishnan that you have to take help of professionals for this. you
can contact me as well if you need any assistance on the same.

Thanks.

Primarily Donations to NGOs coming from the domestic Indian market CAN only be made via a Bank Account. That's as per RBI's guidelines.

We, at BillBharo, work closely with a few NGOs and MFIs. We are already live with one of the leading Micro Finance Institute and have powered their India collections. The collections that are made to the NGO internationally shall only be accepted by Cards and there are certain guidelines for the same as well.

Please let me know if we can help and offer you a solution, apart from EBS, as I read correctly. May I request you to kindly send me the following information to corpora...@billbharo.com
- Name of the NGO
- URL
- Average Donation Size
- Do you want your payment page to be customized

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

Aditya

We contacted EBS and they've agreed to let us use their payment gateway for accepting donations. CCAvenue and others did not work. They told us that there is some directive from banks that NGO donations via payment gateways are not to be accepted.

In any case, we are in the process of integrating with EBS now.

Cheers,
Gaurav
