Dear Friends,

Recently I have been a part of a discussion on some interesting idea related to online booking of Movie tickets.
During discuss some points came out to which we don't have clear answers or our understanding may be not up to the mark.

1)How the booking of ticket happen so that 1 ticket can't be sold to 2 customers.
-When we go to box office directly and book ticket, it is almost instant. But when we chose seats to book, site start timer for that particular session and then book tickets. Does it mean , selected seats are blocked for that session and this info is known to the box office counter? If this is the case, then if too many people are booking online then on counter ,seats will be shown as booked(or blocked) but actually too many seats are still available.

2)How bookmyshow get access to the multiplex data base? Is their a centralized data base system for each multiplex to which bookmyshow access?
-all the multiplex run booking solution provided by bookmyshow?(I read it on Google somewhere)

3)What is the business model for Bookmyshow?

4)Is convenience fee is mandatory?

5) Is there any rule that certain % of ticket can be booked online ?

Your valuable comments and suggestions are welcomed.

Regards,
Deepak

Point 2: Yes the software at the point of sales for boxoffice is powered by BMS. This is the real barrier to entry in this market, as I understand.

Hi Deepak,

I am no way related to bookmyshow. Hence please consider my reply personal opinion.

easy one's 1st:
answer to 3 - Business model of bookmyshow is convenience fees collection per ticket.
answer to 4 - Not mandatory. But at bookmyshow, they charge convenience fee and make profits.
answer to 5 - No. At bookmyshow, you can book all tickets online. But at IRCTC tatkal, you can reserve some %. This happens because rules are made and are not universally accepted.

Tough ones:
answer to 1 - There are a lot of ways to do this. Each one has some trade-offs. So technically speaking this is not the only approach.
Answer to 2 - All multiplexes do not run bookmyshow booking solution. They have interfaces which can be queried in real time. Same approach as ATMs use to access data of individual customers from other banks.

Before book my show came up the co was call big tree entertainment or something like that.

They ran all the software for box office sales software and ran the same product on all multiplex websites for online sals.

Book my show seems to be an extension of the same. Powered by the consumer interface. You can also check out sistic in singapore you will get a fair idea of the product works.
