Some of you have asked how graduation with distinction (cum laude, etc.) is officially recorded. Here is what Lois in the Registrar's Office wrote me:
1. We do a “Candidate for Distinction” list for each graduation ceremony, and we notify each candidate via email that they are eligible to wear a gold robe, what they need to go to get that robe, etc. approximately six weeks prior to the ceremony. (For example, I’m working on Fall 2011 this week and will notify the candidates the first part of next week).
2. Once grades are posted and we are conferring degrees, if a student is eligible we will note the appropriate distinction on their final transcript, and on the diploma(s) as well.
Eligible students must have at least the following minimums:
1. 60 credits completed at CSU; after Fresh Start, or as a 2nd BA Candidate
2. And then in the case of Economics the breakdown for Distinction is as follows:
a. Summa Cum Laude 4 to 3.960
b. Magna Cum Laude 3.959 to 3.910
c. Cum Laude 3.909 to 3.70
So the short answer to the question is that both your diploma and your transcript are annotated with your designation of distinction.
Hope that helps!
