to HDS Humanists
Present: Paul, Ian, Nabil

Noon Service
  • Updated noon service document with image, titles, order, songs (decided on Forever in Motion - "And the King Would Say" as an additional one)
  • Everyone speaking has 3 mins, so should write about 1.5 pages each by Monday evening so others can take a look and so we can be in conversation with each other
  • Paul will provide the frame of how Humanist don't have a tradition in a sense and are trying to create a new beginning
  • Seanan/Ian will figure out when to do a short pitch for the liturgical calendar
Liturgical/Humanist Calendar
  • 1 hour once a week of collection, with each based on/arising from the theme of the week
  • First one will be this FIRST week of classes, probably in the morning before classes start, after Ian sends out a doodle for this
  • Given this new activity, we are thinking of having fellowship meetings once a month and business meetings twice a month
  • We may have our first unofficial fellowship mtg this Tuesday for dinner at Ian's place (details TBD)
Symposium
  • Call for Papers: Paul will write pitch by next Sunday and will disseminate widely in academia as well as humanist organizations
  • Website: Paul and Chris will be working on this
  • Paul, Ian will be meeting with Greg Epstein on Monday at 3 to discuss funding, "national exposure"
  • Sponsorships: Nabil will draft a letter for sponsors by next Sunday and send out for feedback, then to actually send out. Please send any suggestions for food/drinks sponsors to him.
  • Venue: Seanan, can you possibly come up with a list of 5 possible venues for the symposium that can seat at least a min. of 50 folks? At Harvard or churches in Harvard Sq. area most ideal.
  • Paul suggests using a rubric and system for reviewing submissions from Cult/ure (details to follow)
  • We are thinking Michael Jackson for the keynote speaker

Hey guys,

Venues:
HDS -- best choice
Science Center auditorium -- I know the HCP uses them; we can ask them how they schedule it and the cost
First Parish Cambridge -- a UU church. Probably not very good for a symposium. I don't think churches are ideal for this sort of thing.

Do you want me to take further action? I need the symposium's date as soon as possible.
