Hello Rafal,
Hope you are doing great.
This is regarding the display parameters and viewing distance which should be used for calculating pixels per degree(ppd).
Is there any universal convention for 'viewing distance' parameter when people use this metric for the research purposes. Since varying it, affects ppd a lot. Also for the display parameters(resolution and size), wont ppd again change from monitor to monitor specs? This will again yield different values of Quality factor as we vary these specs. This will affect the comparison table with other papers for the research.

Thanks
Best

Just a gentle Reminder. As we aim to publish the paper, this would be crucial in reporting the results.

Awaiting a quick response
Thanks

My apologies. I missed the notification your message and I do not check the responses too often.

Yes, viewing distance and the resulting ppd will change the metric predictions. Therefore, I strongly suggest reporting the values used for the metric.

I do not think there is a convention for selecting a viewing distance. For HD TV, the recommended viewing distance was about 3 display heights. I believe it is smaller for 4K. It is much smaller for computer monitors.

We typically select the viewing distance based on application: different for reading text and different for watching video. But I agree, it would be good to have some defaults so that there is some consistency in the reported results.

Best,

Rafal
