In HDRVDP3(),there are words “ “contrast reversal" map is disabled (always returns 0s) because it prooved to be unreliable predictor of artifacts.”

Here it prooved to be unreliable，could you tell me where it was proved to be unreliable？

I do not have any examples at hand, but we tested on different tone mapping artefacts and contrast reversal was poorly correlated with those.
