I've been struggling with this problem for YEARS and looking for a solution.

is Gavin still around?   Can I buy one?

What solved it for me was to buy a cheap USB hub (about $6.) and plug the HDPVR into that.
That cheap hub only supports USB 2.0 and that seemed to be what it needed.
