Dear Advisory Committee Member,

As you know, the CBD and New Orleans Historic District Landmarks
Commissions are currently rewriting their design guidelines. One area
of particular concern is the Commissions’s policy regarding rooftop
additions.

The CBD HDLC adopted their current Rooftop Additions Policy and Design
Standards over a decade ago in response to the growing number of
applications for these types of additions. In general, the guidelines
were designed to correlate with the Secretary of the Interiors
Standards for Additions to Historic Structures, as well as the State
Historic Preservation Office Policy on Rooftop Additions.

The guiding principles of both policies are that rooftop additions,
where allowed, should be designed to be as minimally visible as
possible, thus limiting their impact on historic structures.

Over the past decade, many rooftop additions have been constructed
according to these guidelines, with mixed results. The Staff of the
HDLC would like to take this opportunity to reevaluate the guidelines,
the successes and the failures and open up the discussion to design
professionals and community members.

We hope that you can join us for a meeting on November 1, 2010, from
2:00-4:00 PM in the City Planning Conference Room, 1340 Poydras
Street, Suite 964. Please let us know if you will be able to attend.
We apologize for the short notice.

Sincerely,

C. Elliott Perkins

Hi Elliott,

Unfortunately, I cannot make this, but it looks like you will have decent attendance and this something on which I doubt I have a lot to offer anyway.
