Hi there,

Couple years ago, during my project, I learned that HDDM’s maintenance has been stopped and replaced by HSSM. But from practice, we found HSSM didn’t have all the features ready to function. Just curious how’s the situation going now? Is HSSM fully ready? And is HDDM still working?

Sincerely,

I don't know about the status of HSSM. But the best way to get a good working version of HDDM today is to use the dockerHDDM implementation. You have to install Docker and then it runs inside there with its own implementation of python and all the requisite toolboxes. In my experience it is fairly trouble free to get it up and working and you get the most advanced version of HDDM available.
There is a paper here from the creators of dockerHDDM to help you get it working.

That;s correct re: HDDM in the docker. But also, yes HSSM is quite functional and supercedes HDDM. A preprint on the package is here and a new release with many other capabilities is about to come out (we will continually update it as we did with HDDM)

Honestly, when I took a look at the HSSM code, I like it 1000 times better. The notation makes much more sense and aligns with STAN and lmer. I’m a stats major in school. Also it has so many models to choose from. I think I’ll be gladly switching to HSSM in the future. Back then, when I usedHSSM it was just launched. A lot of the features were still not stable. Hopefully, now that has been improved.
