Subject: Planning For Return to School
To: <dnapo...@rocktwp.net>

Dear Colleagues,

By now I'm sure most of you are aware that Governor Murphy announced yesterday to extend state "stay at home orders" and school closures until May 15, 2020.

NJSSNA executive board has been diligently identifying the many health concerns that will need to be addressed and working on our recommendations for the needed update to the student health guidelines as it relates to COVID19 as well as the current mandates for entry K-12 . We have communicated to the NJDOE/NJDOH that school nurses across the state are working from their virtual health offices and volunteering on the front lines as well. Many school nurses are providing COVID case management for care coordination for their school communities, counties, and health departments utilizing the model developed by our Legislative Chair - Eileen Gavin.

As this health crisis continues to unfold we are in constant communication with school nurses across the state and are fielding their questions and concerns about COVID and re-entry. We are also partners with and in direct communication with NJAAP- New Jersey Academy of Pediatrics and participating every Monday for weekly COVID Q&A sessions and health related updates which is extremely helpful in our collaborative efforts in understanding the disease process and the effects on the pediatric population. Many of the members are school physicians and school nurses and this partnership is extremely valuable as we share information for student population health needs.

This being said, our association feels it is necessary to be proactive in our planning for return to school and NJSSNA will continue to participate on the sub-committee task force to ensure the appropriate health care safety for all students & school communities across the state when that time comes.

NJSSNA provides recommendations to NJDOE and various stakeholders but we will still have to wait for the directives from the NJDOE/NJDOH that will be implemented once the "green light" is given by the Governor to reopen the state & the schools. NJSSNA executive board will continue to monitor the situation and continue to collect data for recommendations from our membership for the updates to school health guidelines.

Thank you for all that you are doing from your "virtual health offices" and for volunteering on various levels during this health crisis. If you have any questions or comments please don't hesitate send to our Executive Director at www.njssnaexe...@gmail.com">www.njssnaexe...@gmail.com or call at 609-233-2466.
Stay safe, stay well, and stay strong!
Regards,
Dorian Vicente MSN, RN, CSN-NJ
