Subject: Save the Date- School RN Program 10/14/2019( Columbus Day)

Just wanted to send out a SAVE THE DATE!!!

We will be hosting a school nurse program again this year on 10/14/19.  This year it will be a day program; running from 8:30 am to early afternoon (TBD).  We currently have multiple pump company representatives, our diabetes educators, and Jacquelyn Brown, Ph.D. (see Bio below) scheduled to speak.  I will be sending updates over the summer, so please contact me with a preferred email while on break if you cannot access your school emails over the summer. Thank you again for all you do.  It has been a wonderful year working with you all.  Enjoy your summer, we’re looking forward to seeing you all in the fall!!

Jacquelyn Brown, Ph.D.

Scientist, Research

Jacquelyn Brown, Ph.D., is a research scientist at JDRF. She manages the biomarkers and disease development grant portfolios for the Prevention program. She is involved in JDRF’s cross-disciplinary efforts surrounding type 1 diabetes (T1D) and Big Data, which involves teaming up with data analytics experts, including IBM Watson researchers, to develop machine learning methods to analyze years of global T1D research data to identify factors leading to onset in children.

Dr. Brown also works closely with both the Regeneration and Immunotherapies programs to implement an effective JDRF Biomarker Program. The goal of this program is to identify multiple biomarkers that present before diagnosis of T1D in order to recognize the genesis of the disease at an earlier stage and prolong onset.

Prior to her work at JDRF, Dr. Brown was a research fellow at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where she designed and executed cancer research strategies to improve immune cell killing of tumors.

Dr. Brown earned her doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where she researched the regulation of immune cell development and function, and received an NIH training grant in immunology. Dr. Brown is a person with T1D herself, and has been living with it for 20 years.

Thank you,

************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************* Morristown Medical Center, the flagship hospital of Atlantic Health System, has been building healthier communities since it was founded 126 years ago. Morristown Medical Center was named one of ‘America’s Best 50 Hospitals’ for the third consecutive year by Healthgrades, a consumer-rankings group. The distinction places Morristown in the top one percent of hospitals in the nation for clinical performance. It was one of only 29 hospitals in the nation to be recognized as a Top Teaching Hospital by Leapfrog, and highest-ranking hospital in New Jersey, in both Cardiology & Heart Surgery and Orthopedics by U.S. News & World Report. In 2017, Morristown was the only hospital in New Jersey and one of just 12 hospitals in the country to receive three of the most sought-after industry honors: America’s 50 Best Hospitals by Healthgrades, an “A” safety grade by Leapfrog and five stars from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Designated a Level I Regional Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons and a Level II by the state, Morristown is a Magnet Hospital for Excellence in Nursing Service, the highest level of recognition by the American Nurses Credentialing Center for facilities that provide acute care services. The Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute offers patients a complete spectrum of heart and vascular care, home to the largest cardiac surgery program in the state. The Carol G. Simon Cancer Center is the only program in the state to receive the 2016 Outstanding Achievement Award from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. *************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************
