Hi All,

I know of two people who wont be able to make the readings group
meeting (but would like to attend), so i want to suggest that we
consider shifting the meeting from the 2 May to the 10 May.

I know there was a concern as well about the amount of reading, and a
later date might also help with that. I tend to think that it makes
sense to include 'On national culture' and 'the pitfalls...', but
perhaps we can leave it open as to what of and how much of these texts
people decide to look at. Given the amount of reading, we might also
decide when we meet that a second Fanon reading group meeting is
necessary.

You will notice that i shifted the reading group to the time allocated
for the next seminar. This was intentional :) Haven given it some
thought, i think it might be better to shelve my presentation for some
later time. As it is, it would require some time to get everything i
want to say in-line. The work my presentation will be based on also
deals with a particular problem, and is very far from a specialist or
general take on theorists i draw on.

This does mean that, if we want to pull together another seminar, or
another broader event, before the end of the block, we should begin
thinking about what it should be. Folk who have any ideas, or would
like to suggest themselves or someone they think will be interesting
to do a mid may presentation, should make suggestions.

Hi Ahmed

I would be keen on having more time to read. But would ask that if it
works for others we consdier the Tuesday rather than the Thursday, so
Tuesday 8 May.

I am keen to participate. But Tuesday and Thursday are tough for me. Also I like times that are before 4.30 because of childcare. Unless of course I can bring my child and she can finder paint and plan in watchable distance. D

Hi all.

It works better for me the week that Ahmed is proposing, but Sociology has a staff meeting all afternoon (i think?) on the 10th.  This would affect me, Prishani, and Zimitri at the least (not sure of others).

Another afternoon would work better.

hi everyone

given the concerns raised by bridget, leigh-ann, and danai, how about Wednesday, then, the 9 May, 16h00-18h00? Danai, i think that you should feel free to bring your child, or, we could meet at an earlier time at your suggestion and with others' consent. i also think that you should feel free to say how the group could help in making things easier for you - buying some activity books and the like, organising a child minder, ?

I could do Wednesday 9 May.

Kelly who has to look after Lerato anyway so I can come has
volunteered to look after Mica too. So Danai, you would just have to
drop Mica at our place, which is down the road from yours and Kelly
will look after them both.

Hope that helps.

Hi everyone,

Not to throw a spanner in the works, but just to note that the Grad Seminar Room isn't available from 16h00-18h00 on Wednesday, May 9. That's when the next lecture in the SWOP Violence Seminar series is scheduled. (To be given by Franziska Rueedi on "Narratives on Trial: The Vaal Uprising as an Event and Discourse"--I don't know if anyone was planning to attend from the Horizontal course?).  We could find another venue, or we could meet from 14h00-1600.  The seminar room is basically booked through for WALE events on the 10th and 11th.

Am happy with the 9th May, and like the idea of the writing center, I propose that we also consider CB 8 if the writing center is not available.
