Transition Towns
‘Back to the Future’
Event at Te Awanga Hall Sunday 30th August 10-4
Fun Family Skills Sharing Day for a more sustainable future
What is it about : A community wide initiative based on the
possibility that the future with less oil could be preferable to the
present, if approached with creativity and proper planning’
Transition Towns is a concept that has been adopted by many people and
countries throughout the world. The goal is to develop a plan to
transition our community away from the use of fossil fuels towards a
more sustainable environment. We can no longer afford to wait for
governments to take action we need to develop community resilience now
and find a positive path for dealing with the challenges our world now
faces. By taking a step back and greatly reducing our reliance on
power driven technology and recapturing those skills and practices
that have slipped from our daily lives, we believe that things can be
turned around. Life lived locally in tune with the seasons and our
environment will give both the planet and future generations a greater
chance of healthy survival.
Local money – local skills- local power
‘Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex and more
violent; it takes a genius and a lot of courage to move in the
opposite direction’ Albert Einstein
‘ To forget how to dig the earth and to tend the soil is to forget
ourselves’ Mahatma Gandhi
