Hastings District Council (HDC), in partnership with the Sustaining Hawke’s Bay Trust (SHBT), is launching a new sustainability campaign to encourage Hastings families, neighbourhoods and communities to get Sus’d and we would like to invite you to become a Sus’d Networker.
Sus’d aims to bring people who want to make a difference to their households, neighbourhoods and the environment together with Sus’d networkers who can teach them how to reduce their carbon footprint.
Sus’d helps households make small steps towards big change – helping people get a vege-garden started, building a worm farm, bringing their power bill down, conserving water, shopping smart, making responsible travel choices and reducing waste.
The Sus’d campaign allows participants to track their progress through a soon-to-be-launched website, provides information for how people can go even greener and encourages participants to spread the Sus’d message – Save Your Money, Save the Environment - to their neighbourhood.
To get the project started HDC and SHBT is providing FREE training to Hastings residents who want to learn about how they can make informed environmental choices at home and then teach these choices to their community as Sus’d Networkers.
The training will focus on enhancing sustainability in the community and is being provided by the Sustainability Trust. The following key areas will be covered;
1. The Big Picture – what’s happening in NZ and internationally around climate change and other environmental issues,
2. Sustainable Living – understanding key household sustainability issues in NZ,
3. Better Choices – engaging groups and individuals to enhance wellbeing for people and the planet,
4. Local solutions – driving positive change in the community.
In addition to the training, we are promoting a public event focusing on wellbeing for people and the planet. Members of your organisations are also warmly invited to attend these events, which will also provide an excellent local networking opportunity.
Training: Wed 15th July 2 – 5pm, Thurs 16th July – all day & Fri 17th July 9am – 1pm.
Public information evening: Thurs 16th July 7 – 8pm, Council Chamber, Hastings District Council, Lyndon Road, Hastings.
