Event Format

This is a robotics event.
Students who attended the robotics workshop will have a benefit here.

This is a single round event, the event will be continued on the second day depending upon the number of entries in the competition.

  • Participants are required to make a manually controlled wireless or wired robot.
  • This robot is required to cover the arena in minimum possible time.
  • Every team will be given two chances and the better of the two performances will be considered for evaluation.

The robot is wall-e and is in a mission to save the world. Hence it has to pick at least one out of the four plants kept at different points in the arena . These plants are finally to be put in the storage pit. When the plants are kept in the pit , a door of prosperity will open up, crossing which the task is completed.

Event Rules

All team members must have an INCORD ID.

  1. Teams have to start from the green are and finish back in the green area in the arena.
  2. There are a total of 9 checkpoints in the arena indicated by red colour. If the robot falls of the path, it will be kept back at the last crossed checkpoint.
  3. Time in which team covers the task will be the performance time
  4. Falling over one obstacle leads to gain of 2 point. At last the total number of points will be multiplied by 10 seconds and the resulting time will be noted as penalty time.
  5. Total = performance time + penalty time.
  6. Team will be judged on their total time.
  7. Teams have to include a cutting mechanism so that it can cut the thread which holds two planks together to pass forward. Note that the thread is neither horizontal nor vertical but inclined.
  8. There are a total of 4 plants placed at various positions in the arena. A minimum of one plant has to be carried till the storage pit. Every extra plant will yield -1.5 points which will help in reducing the total time. For this a storage mechanism can be developed.
  9. Teams are to be evaluated for first and second positions. The top two teams will be rewarded with cash prizes.
  10. Finally, the decision of coordinators will be final and abiding. No further complaints or requests will be entertained in this regard. Excessive arguments may lead to disqualification.

Arena: As shown in the google sketchup file.
Click here to download google sketchup if you do not have it. Its a small software.
You can view the jpeg file here.

Basic requirements:
Team can make manual robot using various motors available in the market. The key is to select the right motors for tires and other mechanism. Motors come in various rpm ranges. The one with greater rpm will have less power and vice-versa. All the other mechanisms should be included using imagination and creativity. Various resources regarding manual robotics are available on the net.
