Dear Blues Lovers

Welcome
This letter is to introduce myself as your newly elected Secretary for HBS. If you don't know me, I'm the lady who dances "like no one's watching" and occasionally you'll see me up there playing drums. I've had substantial experience in secretarial and administration roles so I hope to serve the Society well.
The pandemic has affected us all in too many horrible ways to count over the past two and a half years. Our new committee, and I hope you too, are looking forward to a fresh start as our freedoms are returned and we venture back out into the wonderful, social, musical world of Blues Music.
All correspondence about anything at all to do with Blues Club should come to my email: secretary.ha...@gmail.com and from there I will disseminate to the appropriate people / file / discussion etc. My contact phone number is at the bottom of this email for a quick text or call if needed.

Committee - Oh no, another election!
At our recent AGM we had five nominees for committee members, alongside the usual executive (Chair, Secretary and Treasurer).
One of those nominees declined at the meeting, and another has since left, leaving two spaces on the official committee to be filled in order to meet our legal obligations under the HBS Constitution. The full committee needs to be 8 people - 3 executives and 5 others.

(Note: We do have co-opted members of the committee and general peripheral helpers (such as our webmaster Maciek) but none of these have any power at meetings to make motions, vote or pass the minutes etc).
  • We will need to hold a SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING with another election to fill these spots.
  • This will be held on Thursday 11th August 2022 at 6.00 pm.
  • From today onward, please send in your nominations to my Secretarial email address above.
  • Each nomination needs to have a person nominating, a person seconding the nomination, and an indication of agreement from the nominee (candidate).
  • All nominations need to be in by the 21st of July ideally, as 28th July is the cut off date.
  • The Agenda will simply consist of two items: Election of officers, and Changes to the Rules.
  • If you want to see a healthy committee and a healthy club, please show up for the meeting to vote, or send in your proxy.
Committee Member profiles
Our current committee has an Events sub-committee consisting of Dean and Tayla. This sub committee is branching out into events with other blues clubs and outside parties generating income for our Club and increasing our network of musicians.
People who are great with equipment set up, networking, greeting and event planning are just a few of the skills needed on our committee and sub committee.
The most important and valuable skill is RELIABILITY - people who will show up on time and carry out the tasks they promised to do, or if they can't, communicate this clearly and in a timely fashion. 😎

Upcoming Events
Rounding off the month of June we have:
Sunday Blues on the 26th (this Sunday) 1pm: Mark 'Fatt Max' Hill (Auckland) 2pm: Phil Oxenham (Rotorua) 3pm: Mudslide Band 4pm: Latitude Blues Band (Whangarei). What better way to spend a wintery Sunday afternoon than socialising in a warm pub with live entertainment?
Thursday 30 June Showcase: Being the 5th Thursday of the month we have a special showcase night featuring The Conmen and Hugo & the Hurricanes - this band is really sounding good!! Note that this will most likely be the last opportunity to hear Conmen as Huw, sadly, is leaving Hamilton. He has done so much work for the Club and will be sorely missed, so please come along and show the love. 💝💝💝

These events are always posted up on our Facebook Page managed by Dean. Here is the link: (1) Hamilton Blues Society NZ | Facebook. Why don't you go to that link right now and simply click the LIKE button if you haven't already. This helps publicise the page and ensures you get notifications too.

Finally I would just like to say how proud I am of the musicians and supporters we have within the Hamilton Blues Society and associated Blues Lovers in Hamilton and surrounding districts. The Waikato is brimming with talented musicians.

Warmest regards to all.
