Dear members and supporters

I am pleased to advise that NZ is now operating under an ORANGE light for our Thursday Blues Night - TONIGHT - 14 April 2022 - Doors open at 7pm.

Last night the Tauranga Blues Jam at Jack Dusty's was also essentially under an Orange light, a great night of music. Many HBS musicians were there to perform, and several HBS members in the audience.

Sunday Arvo Blues for April has been cancelled - 24 April 2022.

From today nominations are open for HBS Committee roles. Details on nominating someone are on the HBS NZ Facebook page, and will be on the website (hbs.org.nz) as soon as details from the latest Incorporated Societies Act 2022 are summarised.  Some details are included below. The deadline for emailing nominations is the day of 21 April 2022, because that information and additional details on the voting process must be sent out on the 21 April, in preparation for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) being held on the 12 May 2022.

Committee Roles: Committee comprises 8 - 3 x Executive Officers and 5 x Members
Those Executive Officers are: Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer

Summarised from the Incorporated Societies Act 2022:
Hot off the press, the new Incorporated Societies Act 2022 does contain some significant changes. These changes will be collated and reported in a separate post within the next day or so. But in summary, the following new regulations apply:

Who will qualify to be an Officer of The Society?
Nominees must consent in writing and certify that they are not disqualified and must be over 16 years of age. A person cannot be an undischarged bankrupt, prohibited from being a director or promoter of a company, disqualified from being an officer of a charitable entity, convicted and sentenced for certain offending (for example, a crime involving dishonesty), subject to particular orders (for example, a banning order), or unable to comply with any qualifications for officers contained in the society’s constitution.

All officers will also have defined duties that are very similar to duties of company directors and include such things as acting in good faith and in the best interests of the society or club.

Hamilton Blues Society NZ Committee comprises three Executive Officers, and five Committee members, totaling eight. All Committee members are expected to assist with various duties supporting HBS events in addition to helping run the Society.
