I’ve helped a number of older people with some easy projects. Always, when they asked for help, it was not because they could no longer turn a screwdriver. It was because the project itself was larger and more complex and required more mental and physical energy than they could manage. Even with a self-feeding screw gun, installing a screw many times means standing on a step ladder or bending and lifting the object that is being attached with the screw.
I think electric screwdrivers already exist, and as said above, even self-feed screwguns exist. But handling the screw is usually the smallest problem in a project.
About those food delivery robots. A fun story. A couple of weeks ago, I told a Tesla running on self-driving to go to a Whole Foods supermarket. The car works well and can now find and park in parking spots. But as the car was parking, a food delivery robot started to cross the car’s path. What was so fun to watch was that the two robots (my car and the delivery bot) recognised each other and both stopped in their tracks for a second. The food bot rolled backward for a few feet as if to say “you go first”. The car noticed that gesture and parked itself, and then the robot continued on its way.
The backward rolling was not technically needed, but I think it is a form of communication.
About the screwdriver: You are not thinking big enough. I want a humanoid drobot that comes to your house and does the rough plumbing installation for a bathroom remodel. It knows the plumbing code and can climb into crawl spaces, cut and fit pipe, do minor re-framing as required, and will work 24x7 until the job is finished. Basically, it is a journeyman plumber that can do both new construction and repair service. Of course, you can’t have that today. But what would it take? I think today's physical robots are already good enough; it is the software that is lacking.
