We had a scheduling problem with Maker Nexus, so the in-person session will be at:

Presentation: BotPMU (Power Management Unit)
By featured Homebrewed Roboticist: Nathan Lewis
The last decade has seen widespread adoption of the USB-C connector and the USB-C PD (Power Delivery) protocol. The hobby robotics space has been mostly insulated from USB-C PD until the introduction of the Raspberry Pi 5, which (in)famously requires a non-standard USB-C power adapter to function fully. This renders the RPi5 unable to be used with the majority of USB-C PD power banks available on the market.
Our own Nathan Lewis has been developing a USB-C power supply and battery management controller called the “BotPMU”, which provides USB-C PD 3.1 ports compatible with the Raspberry Pi 5’s non-standard profile, as well as any standard USB-C PD devices, delivering up to 240 W. The BotPMU also provides a dedicated DC-out port, which can be used to directly tap the battery to power motor drivers and other high-current devices.
Nathan will give a brief technical overview of developing with USB-C PD and a deep dive into the BotPMU's development process and the features it provides for hobby robots.
Our meetings are hybrid.
This month’s in-person session is at Toborlife AI, 1088 Independence Ave, Suite B, Mountain View, CA 94043.
