Hi all,

I am trying to order a Coral AI TPU (https://coral.ai/products/accelerator/#description) but they seem to be sold out everywhere I check.

Does anyone have any lead where I could get one?

Thanks!

I was able to buy one but that was a while back.  With luck, the lack of availability means they are coming out with a new model.

If you are buying this to support software development, the good news is that the USB accelerator is completely boring and unexciting.  Just what you want.   By this, I mean that you can use it interchangeably with a newer low-end PCIe based GPU card that is marketed to gamers.  Your software will not know the difference.  Then when you finally do get the USB dongle (or its replacement) you can edit a line or two and point your software to it.   Google's Tensorflow is well thought out and works pretty much the same on different hardware so long as the PCIe card does int-8.

Also their advice about heat is very conservative.   I did not see a heat problem even running for hours at full speed.  Ys it gets warm but still in-spec in a 68F to 70F workroom

In any case, you will 100% need the PCIe GPU card (or access to one via Google or AWS cloud account) to train models, the Coral USB dongle can not be used for training.

My dad, who this email belongs to, recently passed. I have found a Coral AI TPU among his things. If you'd like it, I'd be happy to send it to you for the cost of shipping. I'd rather it go to someone who needs it than sit in his workshop unused. Let me know.

Per this,  https://eu.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Coral/G950-06809-01/

-> Seems Mouser has forward orders with inbound units coming in March and May.

Coral Dev boards are available if you need the technology but USB format is not strict requirement,

Dear Heather,

I didn't know your dad, but I did read his posts on this list. And I was so touched by the reminiscence of his life that I read. What a man. And then I saw his age and I felt angry that someone so young would be struck down. I wasn't going to write because of my distance from him but as you have given me the opportunity, let me send you my most sincere condolences. May his memory be a blessing to you and the rest of your family.

It seems unseemly to even mention this, but as you wrote, let me respond as follows. If you can find time during your time of mourning, I would indeed appreciate it if you were able to mail the TPU. You can just let me know the cost and I can send you a check, or if you are on Venmo I can transfer it to you upon your request. Please email me directly at pito...@gmail.com.

Thank you,
