Hi everyone: I find myself needing 2 RPIs and I am looking and looking and seeing out of stock all over the place. Any idea what’s going on, and, maybe a lead of where I could order one? Thanks!

It's probably the electronic component affecting every company.

I saw some on facebook marketplace with better prices than ebay. FB
marketplace can ship to you now.

Im looking at the prices now, 90 dollars for  a raspberry pi 4 from before they fixed the usb-c bug. They may be in stock, but they have gone up in price.

There is also a relatively recent (since COVID) container ship import market price blow up crisis that is impacting many importers and causing big delays for ships to unload in port. The lead time has increased significantly for such imports. In LA ships are waiting 60 days to unload.

As a test, I just went to Amazon and placed 20 Raspberry Pi 4 into the shopping cart.  I can have all 20 of them with free 2-day Prime delivery.  There is no shortage.

Good vid. Not materials, increased demand.

I wonder - if a 6 month backlog is insufficient, what do we do? make a 12 month buffer? Covid 19 is not an every year problem. Some inconvenience is warranted.

I'm all for increased domestic production.

Central Computers has them locally. https://www.centralcomputer.com  I just bought 2 2GB pi 4s from the east bay store and they had about 10 more in stock.  They do carry a $5-$10 markup but they are local and have them.

I feel there's a confluence of factors affecting things like the availability of Pis and other SBCs.
Sometimes it's CPUs, sometimes it's memory or other components and different companies are taking different approaches to deal with it.

I've gotten some change notices from Aaeon (AKA UP!) recently detailing part changes/swapouts/deletions they're making to their product line.
No boards are being EOL'ed, but rather they are removing certain header or mounting brackets or common(but not always used) parts due to lack of availability.
One of these was for an "Industrial" version of the UP! which is sold as part of "solution" and are sealed inside a IPxx-rated box.
They're removing the 40-pin Pi-compatible header from the BOM because they can't get that specific part and it's probably not going to be used anyway.
So rather than totally halt production, they're looking at their line and going "Yeah, nobody's going to ever use that....nobody ever asks us about that either...delete,delete,subsitute,delete..."

This also came up on the comments section of the OAK-D Lite Kickstarter where myself and a few others were asking:
"Hey, this December ship date seems awfully optimistic, can you talk about how you're going to make this WRT parts shortages and backlogs, etc.?"
and their response was "Oh, we bought the CPUs, memory and other support chips back in January 2021, so we've got stock to build all the orders with..."

Central here in SF has them too.
They're awesome. I'm amazed they're still here after all these years, even before COVID.
They started carrying breadboards, wire, components, solder, etc. right about the time Fry's was collapsing.

Amazon has the Pi 4 but the price premium seems to reflect the scarcity. It looks like around $75-90 instead of close to $60 for the 4GB model https://camelcamelcamel.com/product/B07TC2BK1X. I bought recently from Adadruit closer to $60 but they limit one per customer.

I'm looking at picking up the IMX477 camera module but finding high prices for it on Amazon as well. This listing at Amazon is around $85 now but approved resellers who do have it in stock seem to have it for $50. I don't see quantity limits at the resellers so maybe there is some explanation other than scarcity. Maybe I should take a look a Central too.
