Thought some of you might be interested, in particular the very last item,  looking for speakers on robotics in the industry, hobby, personal life. Would be good to show these young folks, predominantly high school students,  mentors, and teachers where robotics can be used beyond high school competition floor

Subject: [WRRF-community] Save the Date AND Volunteer for the 2023 WRRF Conference on 12/3!
To: WRRF Community wrrf-co...@googlegroups.com

Hello teams,

We're excited to finally announce that this year's WRRF Conference will be held on December 3rd at Notre Dame High School (San Jose)! Save the Date!
Sorry for the delay, we encountered an unprecedented amount of difficulty and many twists & turns in working to secure a suitable event venue this year, but thank you to NDSJ and FRC 1967 for coming through for us!!
(On that note, if you'd be able to host a future event, please reach out! It has been increasingly difficult to find suitable venues in the area, and we would appreciate your support to continue sustaining this long-running event. See our website for our general hosting needs.)

Volunteer signups are open now - please sign up by end of day Saturday, Nov 18! Visit our website for available roles and a general overview of volunteering, or go straight to the signup form if you're already familiar with that info.

Here are some topics (in no particular order) we're interested in having sessions on. You are not restricted to these topics; if you have another session idea relevant to FIRST and/or robotics in general, please feel free to sign up with it!

  • Anything related to the junction of STEM and the arts, in line with this season's theme, "FIRST in Show"
  • Mechanical: Intro to Mech E, anything related to CAD, intake design, manufacturing/3D printing, prototyping processes
  • Electrical: Intro to Electronics, soldering/wiring
  • Software: Programming a swerve drive, intro to Java/C++, autonomous pathfinding (pathplanner/pathweaver/custom), web dev
  • Systems (e.g. mechatronics, anything that involves 2 or more of the above): Integrating (mech+elec+software) systems, introduction to hardware subsystems, robot troubleshooting + debugging, safe practices, software control systems (e.g. PID)
  • Business/Administration/Management: recruiting new members, rookie training & getting rookies involved, preparing for interviews & presentations, team organization/leadership structure, a "year in review" panel  (multiple teams analyzing how their past year went), what your team does during offseason
  • Media/Art/Design: Branding, animation, graphic design/video editing (merch, robot reveals, award videos)
  • PR/Outreach: Creating/sustaining outreach programs, connecting to and building relationships/involvement w/ school/sponsors/businesses
  • Strategy: Designing a scouting app, match strategy/scouting, motivating drive team, kickoff (analyzing the game, maybe with an interactive mock kickoff), preparing for competition
  • FLL/FTC-specific: Using AprilTags, anything appropriate for middle schoolers
  • Beyond FIRST:  Anything about engineering beyond FIRST, animatronics, FIRST Alum careers in STEM, applications of robotics in various fields (communication, marine science, home appliances, medicine, food, AR/VR, space/aeronautics, factory automation, semiconductor development, AI, automotives, design, etc.), anything related to AI/Machine Learning (history, techniques, research, ethics, etc.), anything related to Human-Computer Interaction

Please let us know if you have any questions!

Regards,
