Just some thoughts & questions on the HBRC logo, not in any priority order…(speaking personally, not from a WRRF point of view).
1) The current HBRC logo shares a vision of three key skills/knowledge segments in robotics: mechanical, electrical, and software. It is a logo I would associate with an organization like IEEE, ASME, etc., that is an engineering professional organization, a place to learn and network.
2) The one logo that seems to be in main contention (focusing on the “brew” in homebrew <G>) evokes an image, for me, of a hobbyist organization, a competition or interest association. It has a cute robot, I might even posit it has a female cast with curly eyelashes. Nice. Humorous and eye-catching. (I wonder about the extent of black for printing evenly).
3) What will the new logo do? How will it be used? Is this a logo for the several years?
4) What image do HBRC members wish to project when they wear a tee-shirt, or sport some other image/logo’d item? Would their interests vary depending on where they wore or used it?
5) What is the vision of HBRC from its members’ perspective? How does any image reflect and share that vision with others?
6) Can HBRC support two levels of logo? One for the external view of the club and one for maybe the year 2012 and a particular project?
a. Admittedly, I’m coming from experience with Western Region Robotics Forum on this one. WRRF has a logo for the long term (www.wrrf.org) with associated colors and all. Then each year we have a unique logo/graphic associated with that year’s competition. We focus on marketing bling for both the long-term organization logo and the competition logo. (www.cafepress.com/wrrf)
7) Why just tee-shirts? And why not use this effort (also) to raise money? Maybe to fund small kits for budding roboticists?
Great idea to provide ways to share our interest in Home Brew with our friends, neighbors, the public, and the world! I’m a big supporter of this concept. Looking forward to being able to do it. Hope I can get a mousepad or bag instead of a tee-shirt (that never completely fit me anyway LOL!).
Best regards and wishes
