Trying to pair this bluetooth with a Windows 7 computer (virtual machine inside my iMac, with a separate BT dongle) worked. Now during pairing I can enter the passcode 1234 and pairing is successfull (LED stops blinking now). Connecting. I uploaded a simple sketch printing "Hello world" to the serial port (via BT) now gives a nice result in PuTTy.
After pairing to the USB BT dongle in the Windows 7 Virtual Machine, my BT_Board is now also pairing (with key 1234) with the onboard BT from Apple (even after closing down Windows 7, removing the USB BT dongle and closing down OSx).

I bought a USB shield and a USB Bluetooth dongle (this one: -Mini-USB-EDR-V2.0-Wireless-Bluetooth-Dongle-Adapter_p86763.html) so I could connect my PS3 controller with bluetooth. I am following this guide ,137747.0.html, but I am stuck on step one. I run the PS3BT sketch with everything plugged in, but when I open the serial monitor all it says is "PS3 Bluetooth Library Started", and it doesn't show the dongle's MAC address (which it should). My USB Bluetooth dongle is blinking, and I am sure I bought the correct version of dongle (EDR V 2.0). The baud rate is also correct at 115200. Has this happened to anybody else? Any help is very much appreciated.
i had the same problem this is what i did,
i started the sketch, the message "PS3 Bluetooth Library Started" apeared e nothing else happened, so i reseted the controller, removed the dongle and pluged again the joystick in the arduino, so i started pressing the buttons and they appeared in the screen, so, aparently even if the messages do not show in the screen the sketch still working and save the mac address in the joystick.
I just had some hardtime with a 4.0 dongle myself. The lsusb command wouldn't show my device either despite updating everything.It was strange as dmesg would show it. I ended up taking a new one!Try out another dongle!

You might be asking, Hey my MacBook already has Bluetooth and I can get a USB Bluetooth adapter, so why use this? Good question! I searched for solutions, and the best hit I found was this forum post - although the chipset (idVendor & idProduct) seems to match with my hardware, I am quite unsure if those drivers are useable for me (since my dongle is manufactured from a complete different company).
