Dear neighbours

I wanted to let you know that our very much loved neighbour Sue Brand who lived at no 17 died last week. She had just had her 88th birthday in a care home near her son. She went very peacefully with her children Jo and Matt by her side. She was such a kind and lovely person and was always very involved with all the happenings in “the street”. We miss her very much.

Best wishes to you all

Miranda (no 32)

Thank you for letting us know, Miranda.

For those who didn't know her, I attach a happy photo taken in the street on May Morning 2009. Sue and her husband Stuart (who died about seven years ago) are in the front row, on the right. Also in the picture: Cynthia Thielker and the late Jean Field  in the front row; the late Sheila O'Cleary in the back row, and of course Guy Williams and Bernard Davis. Sue and Stuart were very hospitable and used to invite neighbours to have breakfast with them after the Morris dancers had retired to the pub.

Sue was good fun, but she had a serious side too. She was a socialist and a member of CND. I will always remember travelling to London with her and several other neighbours in February 2003 to join one million others in protest against the invasion of Iraq.

Goodbye Sue, and thanks for the memories.
