I have just ordered a NeoniQ Intelligent Android TV Box, and I have been following the other main thread dealing with the FV-1 TV Box. I am hoping that there will be others that will get the GTV 220 or the NeoniQ, as they are identical except one is Black and the other White. I believe that they both come out of the Geniatech stable, which currently is not easily available in Australia. Please follow this thread if you are interested as we might be able to help each other with problems that are sure to arise down the track. Look forward to hearing more about these units and the Android OS.
It has some good points and bad points. Being an Android 2.2 system the potential is great, but, as far as I can see, it cannot access the Android Market because it does not have a phone ability. It can, however, access other markets that allow Internet downloads. To get applications from the official Android Market, I have to download (and pay where required) to my HTC Desire. I then move them to the HTC SD card and copy to the SD card for the GTV else I back everything up to the HTC SD and copy them across to the GTV SD card.
I also found that it did not have the latest Flash and Adobe refused to allow me to download it as it was not yet supported. I located a downloadable version and installed it. A little while later I was able to update it to the latest version.
I am however able to access network files on my Tvix 6600 and play them direct. Unfortunately I am not yet able to play the recorded TV programs as they have a tp extension that the unit does not recognise.
Thanks Enviro80 for your comments, very interesting, its all very new to me, when I get my NeoniQ I will probably need some help, as it seems likely that I will have the same problems as yourself. Would appreciate if you keep us up to date with the good things and the bad. I am sorry WV1, I was looking for another thread, and did not find you, you beat me by quite a number of hours. Perhaps we can merge somehow. Have you any ideas.
Hi WV1, I have looked again at write upfor the product which states "comes with the latest Android 2.2 operating system which provides superb performance and more APK support like Adobe Flash 10.1 support" I am not sure what that means, but it could be a way of saying it is not installed. I did Google "Adobe Flash for Android 2.2 Froyo" and there are a number of web sites where it is available for download. As you say, it is supposed to have Android Market and APK installer, however, we can chase up that problem with our local suppliers. I am sure that between yours from Asiapads and what a few others get we should get some answers from someone.
OO. also state that the NeoniQ features "Android 2.2 Froyo Built-in with Flash video supported" though there are complaints that GTV220 does not have Flash and also that the App market Link does not work. I have not received mine yet but I notice the price has gone up for the NeoniQ to $198.95 + $10.95 shipping. Perhaps that is for Fathers Day. I hope the Flash is installed and the link to the App Market works.
I would think that the NeoniQ is very similar to the ATV1000, and I believe that it is made by Geniatech which makes both of them the FV-1 has some very good comments, but there is a lot more information on this one in the following Whirlpool thread :JTV220 / Suli / Thinpax Android TV Box I am hoping to get my NeoniQ next week and I will update you on whether it is any good or not
I have the FV1 and also a ATV2000 on order (slow boat from China). The FV-1 is well supported with lots of firmware updates and a functioning Android market and flash support. The Geniatech products are a bit of unknown as they are newly released and I have not seen any firmware updates floating around. Also if you read this thread possible shortcomings in Android market and flash support.
Be aware that these boxes are relatively new and there are a flood of them awaiting release if you look at one of the Chinese seller sites such as Alibaba.
Also Dvico have a box about to be released later this month and I think Xtreamer have one in the wings.
If you are like me an early adopter of new technologies then you will put up with the shortcomings, but if you are after a polished product wait awhile.
Received my NeoniQ today. Seems OK, set up as a wireless connection, reasonably easy, Has a good manual to help with most aspects, but basic, much better than the average which you get these days. The QUERTY & mouse remote is good, once you are used to it. The web Browser works well. I tried Youtube, there are a number of videos set up in the program, they work fine, but when I search to find a youtube video that I want to watch, it comes up with an error. I don't really want to watch the ones they have set up, I prefer to find the ones I want. I will have to work on that one. The Android system is different and new to me, I have always worked with Windows, I am sure that anyone with an Android phone would not have problems. At this satge I am learning, will keep you updated.
I am thinking of getting an Android TV Box for quite some times. Apart from the Smart TV functions, I also intend to use it for other Web communication (such as Skype), I am interested to know if any Android TV Box comes with a Webcam or support a USB Webcam.
There are quite a number of knowledgeable guys on Whirlpool Thread forum replies.cfm?t=1679431 that might be able to give you some ideas about Skype and Web Cam. Skype comes pre installed on most of the Smart TV boxes, they all have at least 2 USB ports, It would seem very strange to be on Skype without the vdeo and unable to talk.
This might help in regards to the android market, but I found out after frustration and misleading advertising (when buying an android netbook). Apparently the regular Android Market we have access to on our phones and tablets, is only for those devices. If you purchase an android netbook, android tv, etc, then you have to use a different market. Our netbook came with access to a chinese app market called wonderstore, and didn't have any apps that we wanted, or was so hard to navigate. So now it is trial and error trying to find the apps online, as to whether they work, and we can't automatically update.
Thanks Bonda for your reply, I have heard of "Rooting" but because I have never had an Android Phone, or any other Android device, I have no idea what it means, or how to do it. I did go back to Google Android telling them that Android Market and Installer were preinstalled by the manufacturer and this was their reply "Thanks for writing back in with this issue, I'm happy to continue assisting you. I understand that your NeoniQ Intelligent Android TV Box is running on the Android OS.
Please keep in mind, the Android OS is a free, open source operating system, that anyone can put on any device they choose. However, in order to have Android Market access on a device you have to obtain proper licensing to do so.
At this time, the NeoniQ Intelligent Android TV Box doesn't have the proper licensing obtained to install Android Market on this device. Currently, for this reason, the NeoniQ Intelligent Android TV Box is not a supported device for use with Android Market."

It does not look as if these companies selling them have checked them first to see if they work OK. I have contacted Google Android again, telling them that the Market and Installer were preinstalled on the machine by the manufacturer. They are very polite and fast in answering, which is more than can be said about our local companies, here once again is their answer

I think amethyst70, it would be wise to hold off, until things have become clearer
I have just taken delivery of the ATV2000. Still playing around with it but have to say it is not as polished as the Flexview FV-1 that I own.
Iview through the browser is very choppy compared to FV-1, unwatchable.
The unit came without manual and the DVB-T program did not list Australia as an option. Have updated the application to a later version that does list Australia.
The remote is pretty good though, although 1 key is very hard to press.
Still early days.
Just a little more about the NeoniQ, The App Market (AndAppStore their name for it) as it is called does work, but it is not the Google Android Market. it contains 4980 apps, as far as I can tell, there is not one amongst them worth bothering with. They are split into Categories and sub categories, no search engine, so you have to wade through them to see if there is anything you might want. There is no Adobe Flash Player app. or Crackle or any other movie app. The adverts for the product, give you the impression that it is the Android market, but it is not, it is some little link probably owned by NeoniQ, that is why Google won't approve the unit, they obviously do not want to pay Google for a Licence. As far as I can tell it is useless wthout the apps that I want, and I think I will have to return it. It certainly does not match up to the clams made about the unit and what it can do.
The method is to download from the Internet to a PC then copy the apk file to the SD card and put it in the Android TV box and use the box's AppInstaller program to install. If you can, get the Astro application installer.
