Hi

Yesterday we finished the 2nd day of our Black Belt grading.

We had to jog from the community hall to GC, go all the way to the main gate and then get back to the community hall. That was really great. The best loosener we have had in a long time. The younger kids have a tough time, but the enthusiasm is so great that everybody finishes ............ non-stop.

After coming back we were all given application forms to be filled up.

And then, stgarted the days exam .............

This time around we did a lot of techniques. We started with simple single techniques and slowly progressed to complicated combination techniques. There were a lot of great explanations coming our way from our Shihan. I thought this was the best part of our exam. He was giving really good tips on each and every technique, its usefull ness and its application. During the days exam we must have done scores of techniques .........

Finally a tough day came to an end ............. awaiting todays course of action very anxioulsy!!!!!!!!!!!

Regards
Gopal

Hi everyone
Its good to hear that you guys are putting in so much efforts in the
grading test. I am glad that the josh factor is still high. I really
would like to be there with all of you. But i an in training here in
Pune much more rigourous but obviously not as enlightening and
friendly as it is to train with Master. I really miss the community
hall and the atomosphere of our dojo. When i come to Chennai in
december i will come to the dojo to see all of you.
Over here we have a tatoo show in the end of term dor the parents of
the cadets who are passing out. And am always a part of the karate
display team. My picture has even been printed in the NDA journal.

Please work hard and listen and follow Shihan's words implicitly.
Best of luck to all those in the grading test and good wishes to our IIT dojo.

Hi there
Hi Rampasad. Thanks for the advice. Good to know you are doing well and will soon become our pride. Congrats on the fact that your picture was in the NDA journal. Keep it going. The purpose of the training there (as you know very well, by now) is very different.

Day four was really tough. Not so much physically but it was a test of our mental abilities. Earlier, to the begining of the exam, we all had to submit ten techniques (that we had thought of ourselves) and yesterday was the day we had to do them all. We had to remember one/two or four at a time and show them in front of master. Actually, the techniques were supposed to be having both offence and defence moves in them ------ but alas ........ only some of us were good at generating 100% correct techniques. Master said that our performances were not upto the mark and that it would take all night (and may be more) if he were to explain the problems.

In any case, the tough day slowly dragged to an end at about 9:20 PM ............... IT sure was a long long day and a very tough one at that ......

Soooo ................... waiting for day five .......... while we all realise the positions of each and every muscle in our bodies ............ all paining a lot. GOOD PART -- today is the last day .......

Regards
Gopal

hi there
i am very keen to know the techniques you all have submitted to
Shihan. his training style in very unique and effective. at least
people here cant even think of such things. they are straightjaceted
into hand book stuff. you must ask Shihan to corect your techniques.
even if its after the grading its ok but at least you learn. thats the
motive. i used to keep a notebook at home and after coming back from
karate class i would write down all the techniques Shihan had made us
practice that class. in that way i could pester him into giving me
more advanced techniques. please be assured that when you reach that
stage you are very much into a advanced stage of learning the art. to
keep a notebook for the purpose was Shihans idea after all. it came
in very handy whaen i had to prepare my techniques for the black belt
grading. you can study the patterns and work upon it. probably minds
like you can do a bit of a research in the topic. do give it a
thought. i you have not been maintaining a notebook then please do so
from now on. its never too late. you might notice Shihan rarely if at
all repeats any techniques in the classes. so just imagine you can
collect scores of techniques in a short period of time that to from
the horse's mouth.

Wow .................. Ramprasad -- I just Love you mannnnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!! You are an ideal student!!
I must also put in here (in black and white) that Sheik Mohd. Ali and Omar Farook were in a totally different league compared to the rest of us ---- these guys are just too good .......

After reading your email I was amazed to realize that Shihan really does not repeat the techniques ...... AND then this thought came up ...............

WAHT IF WE KEEP SUBMITING THE TECHNIQUES LEARNT IN THE CLASS to this Google groups (or another website created by us). THAT will be a great collection of several unique techniques documented for generations to come. Ofcourse we will have to ask him first !!!!!!!!!

IT was only two days back I was telling Rishabh and Shravya that they should start maintaining a note book.

OK guys see U later .............

hi there.
its a good idea. may be yiucan document alll the techniques collected.
i just hope that mynotebookis safe at home. if it is then i will give
it to you for a while for documentingthe techniques. in fact it was
Shihan who gave me this idea. i do not kanow if he has his own notes
from which he refers but as far as i know him he would not like it to
be published on the internet. he would reveal it in proper doses only
to people he feels are deserving.
because these are things which katare learners at a different stage of
practice willnot be able to comprehend and understand.

Dear all,

Personally I am not in favour of documenting the techniques. When it comes from the mouth of Shihan, it is like a water fall roaring down after copious shower. If you will ever document it, you will just be boating in an artificial pool. The charm is totally lost.

Let’s not be caged tigers fed punctually on the meat of dead carcasses. Let us hunt on our own and catch the pray!

Every time you make your self training, it is a tribute to Shihan. Reciting the documented version is chanting verses without ever invoking its spirit.
